"You've avoided high society most of your life, darling. You can't do that being the prince's consort."

I was quickly coming to realize that.

"How are you to going to make this work?" she asked.

"Alessandro's job is very important. It's not fair to ask him to give it up for me." No matter how much I wished I could.

"Is it any less fair to ask you to give up your life for him?"

"He actually hasn't."

Manicured eyebrows lifted. "He hasn't?"

"No, he said if I spent a week in his world, he'd spend a week in mine." Granted, we hadn't gotten past those two weeks, but it had shown me that Alessandro was willing to compromise, and I think that's what I wanted.

Just a chance at normal.

"There really hasn't been a lot of time to figure out our future. Too much has been going on. We're barely mated at this point. I'm hoping once all of this gets sorted out, we can sit down and figure things out."

Unfortunately, I was starting to wonder if things would ever get sorted out. It seemed as if we just put out one fire when another one ignited.

I smiled when Alessandro sat down beside me and took my hand. "Get all of your phone calls taken care of?"

"For the most part," Alessandro replied before shooting my mother a quick look. "I just got off the phone with Grand Prince Visconti."

"Oh?" I held my breath. "What did he say? Will he do it?"

Alessandro smiled and I had my answer.

"Really?" I whispered, almost afraid to believe it.

Alessandro nodded. "He said he and his mate would love to attend our mating celebration and meeteverymember of your family."

Tears sprang to my eyes as I brought Alessandro's hand up to my lips and pressed a kiss across the top. "Thank you."

Alessandro cupped the side of my face with his other hand and then slid it around the nape of my neck before pulling me close enough to plant a kiss on the top of my head.

"Anything for you,gattino."

He was up and moving to the other end of the airplane before I could say anything more. I watched him go, wondering if I would ever understand the man I had been mated to.

He had made a pretty big mistake when we first met, but he truly was trying to make up for it. For a man that was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and moved through high society so effortlessly, he was winning me over with amazing speed.

"René, what was that all about?"

I couldn't keep the smile off my face as I turned back to my mother. "Any chance you are still in touch with that cute blonde from the club the other night?"

My mother's eyebrows lifted, her eyes rounded, and her jaw dropped. "René, you've never questioned me about any of my hook-ups before. Why now?"

"Because you need a date. Alessandro is throwing us a party."

"Oh, dear, really. You know I can't—"

"Actually, you can. Alessandro has gotten Grand Prince Visconti and his mate to agree to attend the party in support of you, Father, and Pierre. He said it was no one's business but yours how the three of you conducted your lives as long as you aren't breaking any laws, and you aren't. He suggested you bring a date."

My mother's mouth opened and closed and then opened again before her eyebrows scrunched down over her face. "Are you serious? Grand Prince Visconti and Prince Vitali are going to give a show of support for us?"

My smile broadened with the happiness bubbling up inside of me. "He wants everyone to know he supports your life choices, and your life partners."
