I laugh and shake my head. “Not dreaming, though I won’t object to you dreaming about me.”

“I said that out loud.” She squeezes her eyes.

“You did, but I don’t mind. I won’t hold it against you.”

“What time is it?” She looks around.

“No idea. I woke up a few minutes ago. You are a selfish sleeper,” I taunt.

“What? Why?” Her eyebrows furrow adorably, confusion marring her sleep-filled face.

“You stole the covers and most of the bed space.”

“No, I didn’t.” She shakes her head and lifts it to see. “I barely move when I sleep.”

“Ha! You move.” I laugh, waving my hand out, which forces me to release her.

“Huh, I guess I do.” She shakes her head.

“I had to hold on to you to preserve my life,” I throw out in jest.

“Right,” she deadpans and lifts her eyebrows.

When she scoots back to give me space, I frown.

“Does my breath stink?”

“What?” Her eyes widen.

“My breath. Why are you moving away from me?”

“You just said I left you no space.” She throws her hand in the air.

“Ah, but I liked having you close by,” I say.

“Uh, yeah.” Her cheeks turn pink.

She looks down, shielding her face from me. I hold her chin and lift her face.

“Are you okay? Did I make you uncomfortable?” Panic rises.

She should never feel unsafe or unsure of a situation, especially if I have anything to do about it.

“No. This is just a little awkward.” Her nose scrunches up.

“It’s not. Nothing happened, Sage. I’d never . . .” I shake my head.

“I know you wouldn’t.” She reaches out and squeezes my bicep. “Are we good? Things have gotten a bit blurry.” She frowns.

“I’m good, great.” I sit up in the bed. “I wanted to talk about that, actually.” I run a hand through my hair.

“Can I shower and have coffee first?” Her eyebrows dip.

“Of course,” I nod. “Go shower while I figure out how this coffee maker works.”

The room has a small coffee maker with two packets of coffee to brew. It may not be the best, but it’ll do until we go to breakfast.

“Thanks.” She smiles, kicking off the comforter. She holds it up, a mischievous gleam in her eyes. “Do you want this now?”
