“Sage, you’re the most important person in my life…”

She drops to her knees, interrupting me. “I love you. I want to spend my eternity with you. Create memories, laugh and cry together, hold each other when we need the support.”

“Are you proposing, or am I?” I raise my eyebrows.

She laughs, and it’s my favorite sound.

“Go on.” She waves her hand.

“You were saying it better than I was. I had this whole thing planned, and now it’s just . . . ruined.” I look up at the traitorous coffee machine.

“It’s not ruined.” She cups my cheek.

“I love you,” I begin. “You’re my entire universe. I didn’t think it’d be possible to love someone like this—all-consuming and selflessly. You made me understand the true meaning of joy and love. I promise to take care of you, keep you safe, and cherish every moment we spend together. I want forever and beyond with you.” My eyes water and I blink them away.

I did not think I’d get emotional, but looking at this woman, I know that without her, my life would be less.

“You make me a better person and teach me so much about life. I want to do the same. Together, I want to create a new version of the Remington name.”

She smiles and leans forward.

“Can you ask me already?” Her smile is full of mischief. “I want to kiss you already.”

“Will you marry me?”

“Yes.”

We meet halfway, our lips locking in a kiss with the promise of forever. I wrap my arms around her, holding her tight to me, and breathe easily.

“I had a whole plan to make you coffee like when we first met and serve the ring as your treat, but that thing ruined it.” I point up to the machine.

“I don’t care about that.” Her fingers brush along my face.

“We’re getting married,” I whisper, leaning toward her lips again.

“We’re getting married!” she yells.

I laugh and help her up. What she doesn’t know is that our friends and families are about to arrive to celebrate with us.

My dad will even be here. True to his word, he’s made an effort to get to know Hudson and me again as adults. He’s been supportive of both of our careers and relationships. Some days I still can’t believe it.

Unfortunately, my mom hasn’t had a change of heart. It wasn’t much of a surprise when my dad announced he was divorcing her.

But tonight is about celebrating the woman I love and our union. I can’t think of a better place to celebrate our love than the place that brought us together.

Before people arrive, I wrap my arms around Sage, tilt her back, and kiss her with every ounce of love I have for her. She laughs, and I vow to make her laugh every day for the rest of my life.
