“They have two rooms left,” I tell her.

“Great.” She finishes the drink she’s preparing and then comes around the counter a moment.

“Let me see.” She looks over my shoulder. The scent of jasmine mixed with coffee hits me, and I gulp air like a starving man.

I don’t need to drink a cup if I have her this close. She’s my kind of caffeine fix.

Anything related to Sage, and I want to store it in my life, hoard it so I’ll never run out of her scent, her touch, her smile. I want all of it.

“Scroll to the next picture.” She points to the screen.

I follow orders and scroll through.

“Down,” she demands.

I smile at her one-word command, knowing I’ll follow her lead.

Sage moves to the side, leaning forward to read the details better. She turns to look at me, and I realize how close she is. I swallow thickly. Her long lashes brush against the top of her cheekbones as she blinks.

“Looks good to me, and it isn’t expensive.” Her smile is soft.

“I’ll pay for the rooms.” I refuse for her to spend money unnecessarily.

“Absolutely not.” She crosses her arms and shakes her head. “I can afford a night at an inn.” Her arched brow challenges me.

I open my mouth and close it. She can think what she wants, but I’ll sneak in payment.

“I’ll book them.” I drag the laptop closer to me and start adding our information for both rooms.

“Thanks. I’ll grab my card.”

I reach for her arm to stop her. “We can pay once we check out.”

“Oh, duh. It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in a hotel.” She slaps her palm against her forehead, and I chuckle.

“We could probably check in quickly before the reception. I’m sure the wedding party will take photos at the church before heading over, so it’ll buy us some time,” I explain as Sage grabs the empty cup Julie placed to the side.

“Sounds good.”

While she gets to work, I book the rooms and close my laptop. I’m relieved that Sage and I are acting like ourselves again when we’re together, but that doesn’t take away this feeling puncturing my chest. I can’t stay away from her.

When all is said and done, I know I won’t be able to just walk away.

I watch the way she laughs with Julie. Her eyes light up in a way that captivates anyone around her. Whoever said brown eyes were boring never saw Sage’s. They’re full of emotion.

A look from her goes straight to my soul. That’s how she makes me feel. Like I’m standing before her with nothing but my heart.

How can I let that go?

We’ve known each other for a couple of months now, and it feels like an eternity. Unknowingly, my parents’ wish is at risk of becoming true. They want me to settle down in one place and prove that I’m mature enough to manage my life responsibly.

My eyes land on Sage. Is she willing to live that life? Better yet, is she capable of it?

My heart stutters as doubt and confusion brew like an angry storm inside of me. I want her in my life.

Why does it have to be one thing or another?

At what point does life say, here you can have it all?
