The drive up the mountains is peaceful. The sun peeks through the branches of the trees, and the views of the majestic mountains that open up are stunning.

We only saw Tristan’s parents briefly before the ceremony, but I know we’ll have to talk to them more at the reception.

“It was a wonderful ceremony,” I say, breaking the peaceful silence between us.

“It was. Hope and Toby deserve it. They’ve been together for so long.”

“How long have they been in a relationship?” I shift my body slightly to look at him.

“Since high school.”

“Oh, wow.” My eyes widen. “That’s a long time.”

“Yeah,” he nods.

“Hudson and Lex started dating at the beginning of high school, and like in a cliché movie, their best friends got in a relationship. The four of them were always together. Ellie, too. She often joked that Hudson and Toby should’ve had a third best friend for her to end up with,” he chuckles.

“Anyway, Hudson and Lex broke up in college, but that didn’t come between Toby and Hope. I always admired that they were able to stay strong and still love each other while being there for their friends.”

“That’s amazing. Any other couple might have fallen apart as a result.”

“Exactly. I knew then that they were in it for the long haul.” He smiles at me.

“And they are,” I agree with a nod.

“Once we get to the reception, I’ll take a picture of you so you can send it to Daisy.”

“Oh, thanks. Yeah, that’d be great, or she’ll start blowing up my phone all evening,” I joke.

“We can’t have that happen. I want all your attention tonight.”

My heartbeat falters. I am stunned to silence, wondering what in the world he means. He’s being extra flirty today, and it’s only confusing me more.

We finally get to the inn. It’s a rustic house that seems like it belongs in another time. Vines cover one part of the front wall, and the garden is incredible.

Tristan grabs our bags and holds the door open for me. How he manages it all is beyond me. The woman behind the counter smiles and greets us.

“Welcome to Crown’s Inn. You must be here for the wedding.” Her smile is welcoming.

“We are. I have two rooms booked for tonight,” Tristan says confidently.

“Let me have your last name.” She starts tapping the keys on the laptop.

“Ah, here you are. Tristan or Hudson?” She tilts her head.

“Tristan. Hudson’s my brother. He’ll check in later.”

“Ah, yes, here’s the note about his room. Great, your room is 105.” She reaches for a key.

“And the second one?” Tristan asks, looking over at me.

“Second one?” The woman frowns and looks back at her screen. “We only have one room under your name.”

“That must be a mistake. I booked the last two online yesterday.” He reaches for his phone to find the confirmation. “Here you go.”

The woman looks over the email and frowns.

“You’re right.” Apologetic eyes meet ours. “I’m afraid we must’ve double booked. We only have the one room available.”
