Ellie sighs beside me. “I thought after hearing the rumors that things were better between you two.”

“Me too,” Hope sags against her chair.

“You’re both insane. I’m being polite, but that’s the extent of it.” My friends are insane. Do they think that Hudson and I planning this thing is going to get us back together? That’s ridiculous. We still live in different states. We have the same issues that tore us apart. I don’t care how handsome he looks or how familiar he feels or that deep down, it seems like he’s the same person I fell for.

“Okay, but,” Ellie leans forward on the table as if she’s going to tell us a secret. “Fess up. You still get a little tingly when you see him.”

I cough out an awkward laugh. “No.” I shake my head, feeling heat rise up my neck.

“I think she’s lying,” Hope tells Ellie, smirking with mischief.

“I’m not,” I object forcefully.

“She’s getting all riled up, too. I believe she’s even blushing,” Ellie winks at Hope.

“You’re both obnoxious.” I shake my head, drinking the rest of my wine.

“And you’re in denial,” Hope says right as the doorbell rings. “That’s our pizza.” She stands and heads to the door.

“You really don’t feel anything toward Hudson?” Ellie asks without a trace of humor now.

“What’s there to feel? Anger, disappointment, hurt?” I shrug. “I rather not focus on it.”

“What about hope, attraction, love?” She smiles softly.

“Love?” I scoff. “I can’t love a man who didn’t choose me or what we had. I can’t be with a man whose family doesn’t approve of me. What’s the point in fighting for something that’s already doomed?”

“The point is love. We all know Mr. and Mrs. Remington are a special breed. Even Tristan ran as far from them as possible when he graduated high school. Their own son. Maybe Hudson has a different handle on things now that he’s older?”

“It doesn’t matter, Ellie. I’ve got my dance studio, my friends,” I smile at her, “and my family.”

“I get it, but seeing Hope plan her wedding is making me wonder if I’ll ever have what she and Toby found. Does that happen to you as well?” She frowns, her big eyes shining with sadness.

I don’t tell her I thought I already had that with Hudson. It’d open a whole can of worms. Instead, I nod and sit straight when Hope returns with the pizza. Greasy, cheesy pizza always makes things better.

Lex: I booked the spa day for Saturday when we’re there

Hudson: Saturday was going to be brunch day

Lex: No

Hudson: Yeah…

Lex: You didn’t tell me.

Hudson: I made reservations in town

Lex: Change them for Sunday. Saturday was the only day the spa had an opening. Apparently people book months in advance

Hudson: The restaurant didn’t have a table for Sunday, hence brunch on Saturday

I take a deep breath before I fling my phone across my living room. The spa is a must. It’s what Hope asked for. Brunch can wait. I grab my phone again and begin typing at furious speed.

Lex: Can you believe this guy? I swear, he has no consideration for my part of the planning. And you asked me if I felt anything? Heck to the N-O.

I send Ellie the message, letting out my frustration. I refuse to change the spa date or give that up, so Hudson is going to have to figure out another idea. He can go have brunch with the guys. My phone buzzes faster than I’d expect Ellie to respond.

Hudson: I’m guessing that message wasn’t supposed to be for me? Although, I’d love to hear more about these feelings…
