“I’ll be home around seven. We can grab dinner or something.”
“Sounds good. I’m going to take a nap.” He rubs his eyes, a yawn widening his mouth right on cue.
“We can order dinner and stay in, too. I’ll probably be tired by the time I get home.”
“That’s a better plan. If I’m asleep when you get there, wake me up, or I’ll be up all night.” He grabs his bag and slings it over his shoulder.
“Will do.”
Tristan leaves my office with a quick wave. I have no idea what brought him home, but I’m glad to see him. It’s been too long since we’ve spent time together. Despite the different paths we took in life, Tristan is my best friend. He, Toby, and I were inseparable, being only a year apart.
Grabbing my phone, I open my messages app.
Hudson: Have you put more thought into dinner when I’m in town?
I set my phone to the side and get back to work. Eating a big lunch wasn’t ideal. I could go for a nap. What I used to love about real estate is what lately has been bothering me. No workday is ever the same. I work with different clients and properties. It keeps things exciting. Although, recently, I’ve been tired of running around and meeting with different people, competing to get the best deal. It takes a lot of energy, which means I need time to refuel.
My phone buzzes on my desk, and I instantly grab it.
Lex: I’ve put thought into it but haven’t decided if it’s a good idea
Hudson: Spending time with me is always a good idea
Lex: Hmmm…Idk about that
Hudson: What can I do to convince you?
Lex: Promise you won’t break my heart…
Lex: And we both know that’s not a promise you can make
Hudson: I never meant to
Lex: I can understand that but it happened anyway
Lex: And that scares me
Hudson: One chance. One dinner without using the bach party as an excuse
Lex: In town where your parents will find out?
Hudson: I don’t care about that
I’m so tired of my parents controlling my decisions, even subconsciously. I’ve come to realize that I allow their presence in my life to gear my path without me even wanting them to.
Lex: Maybe I do. You get to go back to NY and ignore them. I’m stuck living in the same town as them
Hudson: They won’t bother you
Lex: Right… *eye-roll emoji*
Hudson: I’ll make sure of it, promise
Hudson: One dinner. You can choose the restaurant
Hudson: I’ll be the perfect gentleman
Lex: Why do you insist?
