“How are you?”

“I’m great. Came to make sure this guy behaves.” He juts his thumb toward Hudson.

I chuckle and shake my head. “Always the same, Tristan.”

“I refuse to change,” he announces. “Can I sit? Are you guys on a date? I thought it wasn’t until tomorrow.”

“Told you I didn’t need luck,” Hudson tells him and winks at me.

I roll my eyes and look between them as Tristan takes the liberty to sit next to his brother.

“We were busy,” Hudson says.

“Well, now you’re busy with me.” Tristan gives him a boyish grin. He may have grown up since the last time I saw him, but his personality is the same.

Hudson grumbles something under his breath and looks at me.

“Is it okay if he stays?”

“Of course,” I smile.

“Great.” Hudson sounds less enthusiastic.

“Don’t worry, big bro,” Tristan slaps Hudson’s shoulder. “You won’t have to compete for her attention. I’ll let you have the spotlight.”

I giggle at his jabs and look at Hudson. He lifts a brow and tilts his head, giving me an, Oh, really, look. I shrug and bite down my smile. That kiss from earlier still makes my body buzz. Having him in town again, knowing he came to see me when he arrived, makes me feel special. It’s how Hudson always made me feel when we were younger, as if I were his entire universe. He was also mine.

Maybe it shouldn’t have happened. It’s a risk to my fractured heart, but Hudson has a way of wrapping me up in his charm, something I’ve fought against recently.

“How have you been?” I ask Tristan. I can’t remember the last time I sat at a table with the Remington brothers. It’s been years.

“I’ve been great, traveling and learning about life.” He leans back in his seat. His hands clutch together and rest on the table.

“How about you? Finally opened the studio. It’s great, Lex.”

“Thanks. It’s been…an experience.” I nod slowly. There’s no need to let them know the struggles I faced when acquiring the space. Hudson narrows his eyes and looks at me. I ignore his expression and smile.

“I’m glad you did.” Tristan smiles. “So what are we gonna eat? I’m starving.”

“Lex is starving, too,” Hudson’s eyes dance with amusement.

“Shush.” I kick him under the table.

“I missed it…” Tristan looks between us.

“Nothing. Let’s order, yeah?” I look at the menu. What I could really go for is a greasy, cheesy burger. My lunch was minimal, and I taught most of the classes today.

After the waitress takes our orders, I listen to Tristan tell us about his recent trip to Africa. It’s fascinating to hear about different cultures and the way other people are helping less fortunate communities around the world.

“Are you returning to Africa after the holidays?”

“I’m not sure yet. I have a spot available if I decide to.”

“Where will you go then?” Hudson turns to his brother, clear this is news to him.

Tristan shrugs and smiles. “Wherever the wind blows.”

“You always were an adventurer.” I smile at him.
