I put my hand up, and almost choke on my coffee.“Bryson? You’ve got to be kidding me.I’m not living with a man.My parents would freak out.”

“Jesus, grow up, Carleigh. He’s not going to try to screw you.Bryson just needs a place to live that’s closer to his job, and your apartment is like ten minutes from it.He has to get on a ferry every day right now.”

Living with a man never even crossed my mind, but I’m desperate right now.I’m almost three-hundred bucks short on the rent this month, and I refuse to ask my parents for money.

“Can he pay the first month and last month’s rent?”

Evan nods.

“Fine.Tell him we will do a trial run.Two months.”

I don’t want to live with a man, but right now I don’t have people fighting to be my roommate. The rent has to be paid this week and I’m short.Bryson is the only way it gets paid.

He isn’t a total stranger to me.I met Bryson before through Evan.He dresses like a fisherman and works construction, so it’s clear he will be good at all the practical things I’m not.Bryson is charming easily, and he even seemed to like me well enough - not always a guarantee with my prickly personality.

“He is asking if he can move in tomorrow?”

Wow, he moves fast, doesn’t he?I must not be the only one that’s desperate.“Yeah, if he wants to bring the two thousand with him tomorrow.I can be at the apartment by one.”

Evan vigorously types back and then grins.“Great.He said see you at one.Talk to you soon.”

He saunters off to his next class, and I go back to my apartment to finish working on my thesis. It is the reason for my never-ending headaches, and I’ll be ecstatic once it’s complete.

My mind isn’t focusing on writing, but on my soon to be roommate. What if we clash from the start? After he pays me, I won’t be able to kick him out.Desperate times call for desperate measures, and no matter what happens, I’ll just have to suck it up for at least two months.

Bryson isn’t that dreadful, right?
