MISHA

Iwake up to the sound of loud knocking on the door.

It’s barely eight o’clock in the morning and neither one of the guys knocks on my door unless there’s some sort of emergency, so I immediately get out of the hotel bed and practically run to the door.

I don’t even look through the peephole before I swing it open. Woods is standing in front of me, his arms crossed over his chest. He looks like a mess–well, like a mess for him, which isn’t at all like a mess for everyone else.

He’s wearing a short sleeved shirt that looks a bit small for him, his hair messy, his eyes glassy behind his fogged up glasses. “Are you okay?“ I ask.

It’s a stupid question.

He pushes past me, not answering me. “I need your help.“

“What?“

“I had a sex dream about Trine, went to get her out of the mental health facility she was checked in, fucked her in the parking lot, brought her back to my room and she had a panic attack,“ he says, all in one breath.

“What?“ I say again, shaking my head as I try to process what he just said.

“She’s having a shower right now and I don’t want to leave her alone, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to control myself,“ he says. “I shouldn’t have checked her out…I…“

“You had a sex dream and you couldn’t stop yourself from getting her out, even though she clearly wanted to get away from us?“

He picks his head up to look at me, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose, his eyes narrowing. “I know you’re mocking me and I don’t appreciate it,“ he says. “I’ve bailed you out before, Misha.“

“I’m not mocking you. I’m processing what you’re saying,“ I reply.

“You’re jealous?“ he asks. “You’re missing the point.“

“I’m not missing the point,“ I say, but maybe he’s right. It’s hard to think clearly when all I can think of is him fucking her right outside after he checked her out. “Trine is in your room and you need my help.“

“We both need your help,“ he says softly, rubbing his temple. “That’s why I’m here. Look, there’s…whatever is happening to her, it feels like it’s starting to happen to me.“

“Like you think you’re possessed?“

“I wouldn’t go that far,“ he says quietly. “Mass hysteria is more likely…“

But he doesn’t complete his thought, crossing his arms over his chest instead and leaning against the door. “Look, man, I’m freaking out,“ he says. “Something is wrong and I can’t control it. I need your help. I don’t think she should be alone for long.“

I want to ask more but I know better than to delay things. If Trine needs us, I’m not going to stand here and talk to him about it.

He seems really rattled too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look this stressed out. That’s pretty concerning.

“I don’t know how I can help…“

“I don’t think I should be alone with her,“ he says, interrupting me. “If you’re around, I might be able to stop myself from doing anything stupid.“

“Has me being around ever helped with that?“

“Ha-ha,“ he says, no humor in his voice. “Let’s go.“

I follow him to his room right next door. It’s a bit messier than usual, which is only noticeable because he normally keeps things pretty immaculate and it’s weird enough for me to notice.

I can hear the sound from the shower, the door to the bathroom ajar. On the bed, I can see women’s clothes, but they don’t look like they belong to Trine.

“They kept her stuff,“ Woods says when he sees my gaze flitting around the room. “I yanked her away from it all and they didn’t give her any of her things.“

“We can get her new things.“
