“Like fuck did I.”

I grunt, crossing my arms over my chest. It does nothing to help my sullen attitude, and I’m not in any type of mood to be the calm one here.

“Well, it just seems a bit suspicious that he happened to find you there.”

I roll my eyes, unfolding my arms to push myself up from the couch I had settled on.

“You wanted to go to the book shop, not me, remember? How would I have ever known he would be there? I didn’t even want to go!”

He ponders that thought for a second, and slowly he starts to remember the fight he gave to get me to go out with him. I called it stupid that he’d want to go somewhere like that at this time of night, but apparently, that did little to dissuade him.

Obviously, when I said it was stupid to go, I didn’t realise the sort of night it would end in.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

“Tally,” he starts, the apology slick in his tone. He pushes himself up from his slumped posture and tracks my slow pace. “You’ve got to see where I’m coming from here.”

“Oh, I see it, alright. And I don’t understand it.”

“You don’t understand?”

“No. It’s not like I’m getting up to anything.”

Not that I would’ve stopped Beckett in that underground car park—witnesses be damned.

I know that whatever confession I spilt, Andreas wouldn’t like it. Hell, I wouldn’t like it. But for all of my sins, I’m an honest bitch, and I’m surprised I haven’t been on the receiving end of more blows than I have.

“What were you getting up to?” he quizzes, fixing me with a very pointed look. “Especially considering he’s well aware of who I am.”

“We were getting reacquainted.”

“Reacquainted.” He sniggers, rolling his eyes in disbelief. “He had his hands between your legs, Talia.”

“Yeah, and not for the first time.”

It might not have been my first time with Beckett, but it felt like I was a virgin all over again, just willing to give in to the lust. We’re different people now. My needs are so much stronger now, and I know from the way he felt against me, Beckett’s are too.

“Would you give in to him?”

I think Andreas already knows the answer judging by his guarded tone, but he wants me to say it. He wants to me break his trust, and potentially his heart, by admitting just how fickle I would be.

“Ma’am?”

I keep my eyes on Andreas for a moment before I look away and to the doorway.

“Yes, Vinnie,” I say, thankful for the break in this moment. “What’s up?”

“There’s a man here to see you,” he starts, looking unhappy with the visitor. “Said his name’s Seb. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, Ma’am.”

“It’s fine, Vinnie. I’ve got this handled.”

I smooth my skirt down, channel every possible ounce of calm in me, and advance for the main meeting room. I’ll handle all of my business in the same fashion, with the same attitude, and deal with the consequences afterwards.

Sebastian’s looking around the room, taking it all in, and it’s now I get a real look at him. He’s in a button-down shirt, one that clings tightly to muscles he didn’t have in his early twenties. If I were crazy, I’d call him attractive, but nowhere near as handsome as Beckett. With his brown hair and stubbled jaw, Sebastian is aging well, a true match to stand beside Beckett because there was never a doubt in my mind that Sebastian would always be his right-hand man.

“Who let you in?”

He sniggers at my blunt response to his appearance.
