She’s right. Maybe I did.

I had watched her strip, letting her sodden clothes fall to the floor to reveal a body I used to crave, only to feel my cock pulse before the blood flow rushed and I was unsuccessfully rubbing away my erection. Her curves are more pronounced now. All woman and all power.

When she went into the bathroom and I heard the shower turn on, I took care of myself, wanking in the shadows of her bedroom just so I could make sure I didn’t lose my cool.

Sebastian will find this funny later, that much I know for sure.

He’d also find it hilarious if he walked in to see Natalia with the upper hand.

“Only one of us can make it out of this alive,” I remark, glancing down at her hand still holding firm at my jugular. “Or that’s what they say. We could prove them wrong.”

“I’m not after negotiations.”

There’s a scuffling outside the bedroom door, and I remain unreadable. I keep my eyes on her, and even though she wants to look, she refrains. Before we go further, the door flies open, illuminating us with the unnatural light of the hallway, and we both turn in unison.

Andreas stands in the doorway, flanked by my main man, Conrad, sporting a fresh face of cuts and bruises. He did exactly what I asked of him.

Her distraction is my moment to shine, and I steal back the dominance she stole from me.

I take her by the wrist, tossing her aside, off my cock, and knocking the knife from her dainty hand as we go. As I push up, taking my gun from the jacket I’d thrown at the end of her bed, I work this part of my plan into action.

Pressing the gun under her jaw. I force her to look directly at me as I sneer at the sight of her. She bucks against me, and I don’t give a fuck if I’m standing here with my trousers around my ankles with everything on show because it just makes this moment even more glorious.

“Shall we give them a demonstration?” I ask, taking my gun away, only to wave it in her face. “I’ll get you off with this while he watches. I’ll fuck you so hard with it that he’ll never feel the same afterwards. Hell, after what we just did, he’ll never feel the same again anyway, will he?”

She laughs. “It wouldn’t work.”

“Jealousy does crazy things to people.”

There has been a time or two in our tattered history where jealousy nearly burnt the city whole.

Her small giggle rips into a full belly laugh.

“What’s so funny, Natalia?”

“You never even saw it, did you?” she asks, and her voice twists with glee. “He’s gay. You’re getting him harder than I ever could, Beck.”

Fucking bitch.

I look over my shoulder and Andreas grins brightly, regardless of his evident pain, and I see she’s right. She played me with that one, and I’ll say I’m impressed because between her attitude and his behaviour, he was very convincing.

“I guess I can’t use him to break your heart now.”

A bitter laugh escapes her this time. “Oh, honey. You can’t break a broken heart.”

“You sure about that, Talia?”

I use my gun to push some of her hair out of her face.

“Kill him.” Her eyes don’t even flicker, and I almost believe her. “He’s nothing to me.”

Her dare is tantalising, and I know she’s testing me, but I’m not here to be tricked, so I listen to her.

It’s time she learns what I’m all about.

I pull my gun away from her, aim, and fire.

There was never going to be a moment for her to plead, for her to fight against this.
