“We did for a while, but it got so expensive. So as soon as my brother graduated high school, he helped my dad.”

I noticed Justin hadn’t mentioned anything about his mother helping. However, he mentioned both parents back in Lithuania. Did his mother stay behind?

“There are Batten support groups worldwide, and the one based out of Los Angeles gave my parents more help than they ever received in Lithuania. It was hard for Rami to write or color because the pencils or crayons were too thin for her to hold. The U.S. support group would send boxes of supplies that are readily available here inexpensively. You’d be shocked what it would cost for a box of thick crayons in Lithuania, if you could even find them. The group here helped us get into the apartment where we live, so we’re very grateful for them.”

“That’s good. I’m glad to hear your family is getting some assistance.”

I quietly focused on the road and traffic for a few minutes in silence. I was trying to think of the best way to bring up that mark on his face. I previously asked him about it and if the kid from the football team had done it, but Justin denied that. It was clear that his family was very close, and I hated to think that he’d ended up with the mark at home, but it had been driving me crazy not knowing.

“Justin, can I ask about the bruise on your face?”

His light laughter caused me to take my eyes off the road just to look at him. Fuck, that mouth of his curved into a smile making my dick stir.

“My sister gave it to me. Not on purpose, of course. She has tremors and spasms daily, and my dad has shown me how to help her so she won’t hurt herself during them. She had a spasm attack one of the nights I was up late studying, and rather than my brother getting out of bed, I told him I’d take care of Rami. I was so tired and didn’t hold her the way I was supposed to. So when she kicked, her foot got me on the side of my face.”

His explanation made complete sense, and I was relieved and sad to hear it. I was happy to hear he wasn’t getting hit at home but sad at the circumstances. Justin was very young to have such heavy weights on his shoulders. It made it hard for him to relax and enjoy his youth.

“Your sister is why you want to go into medical engineering?” I was pretty sure that was the reason, but I loved listening to him talk.

“Yes. I want to help find a treatment that helps. I know time is limited for Rami, but maybe it’ll help extend the quality of life for some other kids or give them opportunities that otherwise they wouldn’t have. Rami couldn’t go to school in Lithuania. Teachers wouldn’t help her, and there weren’t any specialty schools. My mom homeschooled her as best she could with the resources available. We work with her now.”

There was a mother in the picture.

“That’s my complex.” Justin pointed to an apartment complex on the other side of the street. “Thanks again for giving me a lift,” he said as I pulled into the dimly lit complex.

“It’s no trouble, and like I said, I’m sorry you ended up getting home later than usual.”

“It was quicker than the bus,” he added.

Straight ahead was what appeared to be the clubhouse to the complex. Lights were on inside the packed gym as we drove by.

“The gym is always occupied. I can never get in there,” Justin commented.

“You can use the gym on campus. It’s huge, and all students and staff are welcome to use it.”

“Does it cost anything?”

“It does for faculty, but it’s free for students as long as you have your student ID card. You should try it out. I use the gym on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Bring your gym clothes tomorrow, and I’ll show you around and how to use some of the machines,” I offered. Eagerly, I’d gotten ahead of myself and reminded myself to slow down.

“Yeah?” he questioned, as if he didn’t believe my offer.

“Yes, I’ll be happy to show you around. We can go after you do some prep work for me tomorrow afternoon.”

“Okay, thank you. I’ll bring my stuff.”

I stopped along the curb in front of the building Justin pointed to. Most of the apartments looked dark except one on the lower level. Though the vertical blinds were closed, I could still see lights on inside.

“See you tomorrow, Professor,” Justin said as he got out and reached in for his backpack. “Thank you again.” His smile made my dick twitch again. Those lips and eyes could just about do me in.

I waved and watched him until he stepped inside of the apartment before I pulled away from the curb. As I drove home, I thought about my upcoming workout with Justin. Even though I reminded myself that I was doing something “good” by keeping him away from a thug-infested apartment complex gym, I was well aware of my own urges.

Chapter Six

LUCAS

I jacked off last night and this morning, hoping to have all of it out of my system for today. Three back-to-back lab sessions were on my schedule this afternoon, and I needed to be ready to focus. I also had Justin’s class this morning to look forward to. Actually, fuck the class … I only cared about seeing Justin.

Even a week after giving him a ride home, the scent of his laundry detergent still lingered in my SUV when I opened the door. It was intoxicating and instantly made me think of him, which caused my cock to stiffen.
