He pulls into the driveway. “Inside, now.”

“Yes, sir.” I smirk and open my door. Sliding out of the car, I take my keys out of my purse. I unlock the door, pushing it open. The door closes loudly behind me, making me jump. As I make my way to the couch, I could have sworn I heard a small growl.

“Sit.”

Instead, I lie down on the couch, put one leg over the other, and prop my head up on my arm. “Yes, David?” I try to hide my smile, lifting my eyes to meet his. His eyes widen, and his mouth forms a straight line.

“Skylar.”

This time, my eyes go wide. Shit, I’m in trouble. But why does my entire body tingle when he says my name?

Chapter Ten

DAVID

Fuck. The way she just said my name made my dick twitch. What the…

“What the hell were you doing at the club?” I hold her gaze as I sit down in the chair next to the couch.

She shrugs before answering, “Nothing.”

“Don’t make me repeat myself.”

“I-I was making sure you didn’t get into any trouble, so I followed you.”

“I’m an adult, Bug. It’s not your job to watch over me.”

“But Uncle Davey.” Her voice wavers, and she looks away. “I don’t want you to go on dates.”

“How did you know where I was going to be?”

“I heard you and my parents talking last night. My bedroom window was open, and I heard you talking about dating again. And I got scared that you were going to leave, and you can’t leave with her. You can’t leave with anyone.”

Did I just hear her correctly? “Bug, it’s time I got back out there.”

She shakes her head. “No, you’re mine.”

“Aw, Bug. I’ll always be here for you.”

“No, not like that.” She moves her leg back an inch and parts her legs. What is she doing? “She can’t have you.”

Ignoring her whine, I stand up from my position and start pacing. “What would your parents do if they found out you followed me to the club? You shouldn’t be sneaking out of the house. You could have gotten hurt. How did you even get in? It’s dangerous for you to be out there like that!”

“Out there like what?” That sweet sparkle in her eyes roars back to life. “I walked in, just like you did.”

“You know like what,” I huff. “You’re too young to be dressing like that and going out. You’ll draw the wrong kind of attention. You shouldn’t have followed me.”

“Uncle Davey, I’m growing up. I can take care of myself.”

“Not with that attitude, you can’t. Maybe we should talk to your dad about this.”

She straightens quickly. “No! Please, you can’t tell my dad.”

“Well, if you’re going to think you’re invincible, I’m going to have to. You should not be going out to the clubs, especially that club. You’re way too young.”

“What do you mean, especially that club?” She tilts her head.

“Again, you’re way too young.”
