“Cole was the love of my life years ago. I don’t even know Chains.” I glanced back at the man in question wondering what he must be thinking about all this. His face was blank as he looked down at me and because I no longer knew him I couldn’t begin to guess what that meant. “Neither of us are the same people we were back then.” The anger drained away from me. “What made you think this was a good idea.”

Dad frowned and I could practically see the cogs turning as he tried to work out the best way to answer me. I waved him off before he could open his mouth. “Forget it. I don’t have the energy to discuss this right now. I’m going home,” I said with a sigh. I was tired and just wanted to get away from everyone’s beady gaze.

“Jezzy,” Cole called as I brushed passed him on my way to the door.

“Oh, don’t waste your breath. She’ll be back when she’s finished sulking. Enjoy the party.”

My dad’s words had me gritting my teeth, so I didn’t say anything back. It wouldn’t do any good because when dad has a plan nothing will stop him following through with it.

Chapter Seven

ROOSTER

I didn’t want to leave Jez to wake up alone in bed but the VP of and MC can’t miss Church. The only way I’d get away with missing such a thing is if I was bleeding out in the gutter somewhere. And where would the fun be in that?

The scrape of the chair legs on the floor caught my attention and I quickly glanced around the room to see that everyone was filing out except for myself and Ink, the president, who was still sat at the head of the table.

“Ah, you’re back in the land of the living I see.” Ink stated his voice was light with amusement, so I wasn’t too worried about any repercussions from my zoning out for the majority of the meeting.

I shrugged giving him a sheepish grin. “I’m guessing I didn’t miss anything important.”

The last member out the room closed the door behind him and Ink’s shoulders lost some of the tension in them. “No, just the same old shit. Thankfully the Vultures have been keeping to their territory and the cops have stopped sniffing around us after the suspicion with Kevin Simpson’s death.” Just the mention of the ordeal with his old lady’s stalker had Ink gritting his jaw together. Although he’d never have met her if she wasn’t running from him in the first place.

“You’re not one to zone out, what’s on your mind Brother?” I didn’t want to share Jez just yet and going to Vulture’s territory was against the club rules, but I had a good reason for it, and he needed to know about Laci. She might be my sister by blood but she’s Ink’s by choice.

“I found out where Laci’s been running off to. She’s got herself a job.” He raised an eyebrow in question and waited for me to tell him the rest. “At Poochies.”

“Blaze’s place?” He growled.

“The very one.”

Ink banged his fist on the table. “Fuck. What was she thinking?”

I shook my head. “I only got to talk to her for a few minutes while she was on a break but apparently, we suffocate her.”

“Are you telling me you didn’t only cross onto Vultures’ land, but you stepped into the fucking heart of it?” His calm controlled voice told me how angry he was as he stared at me with wide eyes.

“She’s my sister, Ink. I needed to know what she was hiding. I didn’t have my bike or my cut, to anyone who saw me I was just a guy off the street.”

Ink shook his head. “Shit could have seriously hit the fan. Does he even know who she is? Surely, he’d be either punishing us for it or rubbing our faces in it if he did,” he mused as he rubbed a hand over his neat beard.

“I know, but it didn’t. She promised me she’d explain things at home. I didn’t catch her this morning but she’s the first person I’m looking for when I leave this room,” I promised, knowing I wouldn’t let her leave without getting all the answers we needed.

“I think I need a little chat with her myself.” I frowned at his words, but he raised a hand in a stop gesture. “She’s your sister and you have every right to talk to her first but she’s part of this club and I’m her President, just as much as I am yours. She’s broken the rules and I have the right to hear her reasons from her own mouth.”

He wasn’t wrong and I nodded my agreement. I wasn’t worried that he’d punish her like he would have one of the guys. She might be part of the MC but being a club princess had its benefits, I’m sure he’d find some way to make her pay but it wouldn’t be harsh or painful. I was surprised he hadn’t mentioned punishing me, but he has his own sister, Ria, and I’m pretty sure he would’ve done the same if he was in my shoes, so maybe that was why he hadn’t gone down that road.

Ink slapped his hand on the table and pushed his chair back. “Come on, let’s go hunt down that sister of yours.”

I took a deep breath and followed suit shoving my chair back and striding out the room behind him. I closed the doors and let my gaze roam over the full clubhouse. It looked like any regular bar. Apart from the couples doing more than making out on the benches. I spotted Gunner fucking one of the girls from our strip club against the wall neither of them caring about the audience they might have. Beans winked at me from a stool at the bar as Amber sucked him off. Some cheering caught my attention and I saw one of my club brothers handing over a wad of cash to another beside the pool table. He clearly lost more than just the game.

After giving a few passing greetings I headed for the main doors and garden where I knew I’d find Laci with the rest of the kids and old ladies of the club. The kids weren’t allowed in the clubhouse—since most things in happening in there aren’t exactly kid friendly—and most of our women didn’t step foot in there either. The clubhouse was just for the guys and the club whores.

One sweep of the crowd and my eyes instantly fell on Laci who was blowing raspberries on Ink’s son, TJ’s, neck. His baby giggles brought a smile to my face in seconds. It even had some of the tension I’d been holding onto since I saw my sister walk into Poochies, lift from my frame. Before I could reach them, Ink stepped up to her and pressed a kiss to her forehead before speaking to her too quietly for me to hear. She nodded and her eyes landed on mine.

“Hey Lace… You ready for that talk?”

She swallowed and gave me a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Yeah. Can we go to your room?” She gestured towards the clubhouse with a nod of her head and as much as I didn’t really want her walking through there while everyone was letting off steam, I knew she’d seen way worse. She’d grown up in the club and because her and Ria had snuck in there more times than I could count. It got to a point where we all turned a blind eye when it came to the club princesses.
