Jez stepped up to me and slid her hand up my chest, tracing the lines of my neck tattoos as she brought her hand around my neck to rest at my nape. It was something I’d noticed she enjoyed doing whenever my tattoos were on show. “You are an amazing man, and your sister is lucky to have you.” Listening to her praise made me feel bad about not telling her I was a Sinister Crow. She worked for the Vultures in their strip club, and I didn’t think she’d feel different about me after finding out I was an MC member, but I wanted her to get to know me without the label so that when I felt things were getting serious between us, I could ask her to come to the dark side and switch clubs.

Slipping my hands around Jez’s waist I took one deviously rounded globe in each hand and kneaded my fingers into the soft flesh. “Talking about having people… are we gonna finish what we started back at your place?”

Jez gazed at me; her brow lifted in question. “I don’t have a fucking clue what you are talking about. Perhaps you’ll have to remind me what we’d started.” Her smirk told me she knew exactly what I was talking about, but I was willing to play along with her game. I wasn’t afraid of a little work.

“How where we…” I glanced around the room pretending to look for something before lifting her up by my hands on her arse, she instantly wrapped her legs around my waist. “Ah, this might ring a bell.” I sat on the bed and unhooked her legs before laying on my back and laying her over my chest like we’d woken up on her couch.

Jez shook her head a smile playing over her lips. “Nope… I’ve got nothing.”

“Well, we are wearing way too many clothes.” I slid my hands up Jez’s back and under her tank top, unhooking her bra without any trouble. Jez lifted her upper half and raised her arms as I tugged the tank and bra off in one.

“Oh… Now I’m remembering. Although, correct me if I’m wrong this needs to go too,” she said plucking at my t-shirt.

I grinned as I lifted my body enough to let her rid me of the material. “I knew I’d knock that memory loose.”

Jez and I had spent the majority of what was rest of the night devouring each other’s bodies or sharing stories about our lives. She told me about her father being some big hot shot CEO and her brother wanting nothing more than to follow in his footsteps and take over when the time came. Jez also made it clear she just wanted to have her own life and a chance to follow her own dreams, although she was adamant she needed to work out what they even were first.

So, after only getting about an hours sleep and seeing her out at the butt-crack of dawn, I was standing in front of the coffee machine waiting rather impatiently for it to finish filling my mug.

“Hey, big brother. That coffee better be for me since you and your lady friend kept me up all night.” Laci pressed against my back giving me a hug.

I rubbed a hand over my face and when she let me go, I turned and leant my back against the counter. “Fuck no. I need this coffee for my brain to work. I’m surprised I even got the damn machine to work.”

Laci stepped closer and peered into the mug the machine was filling ever so fucking slowly. She burst out laughing. “Rem, did you even put a capsule in the machine?” She asked once she calmed herself down.

Spinning round, I caught sight of the lone capsule sat on the counter beside the machine. “Fuck!” I hovered over the mug to double check I hadn’t gotten two capsules out the drawer by mistake but no, the mug was full of clear water. And now I was thinking about it, there was no coffee aroma filling the room.

Laci grabbed my arms and veered me towards the breakfast bar. “Go sit down. I’ll make you a coffee and I’ll even do you some toast if you want.”

“You are the best, little sis…”

“And don’t you forget it.” She poked her tongue out at me over her shoulder as she went about making me breakfast. Her playfulness brought a smile to my face, and I couldn’t help but be thankful that all those years ago when life went to shit and I was left holding down the fort, I stepped up and took care of her, because I couldn’t even imagine what my life would be like without my little sister in it.

Chapter Twelve

JINX

Weeks had passed since that night I’d first met Remy. We saw each other every day and always spent the night together in one of our beds. I hadn’t met any of his friends and he hadn’t met any of mine, but I didn’t care. I liked having him all to myself. We practically lived in our own little bubble of heaven.

If I worked, he’d sit in the bar pretending to be just a regular John, enjoying the show. Just like he was tonight. Laci placed her tray on the bar, it was piled high with empty glasses, and I instantly started loading them into the dishwasher. “I can do that,” she said her voice full of panic as she ducked under the counter. “I don’t mind, there’s nothing much left for me to do until the stragglers leave. Go get cleaned up and head off home.”

Her face lit up as she gave me a grateful smile. “Thanks, I owe you one.”

“That’s a dangerous offer, Girly. Who knows what I’ll ask for?” I was careful not to use the girls’ real names in the club. Our guys were fine to know, but the club wasn’t exclusive to only them and there were plenty of Randoms that were regulars, some of them tended to get obsessed with a pretty face and we’d dealt with a stalker or two on more than one occasion.

I grinned at the sound of her giggle as she walked towards the back where the changing rooms were. Remy caught my eye and downed his drink before placing the glass on the bar, his fingers brushed mine as I grabbed it. “Your place or mine?” He asked, his voice low so nobody else would be able to hear him.

“Mine.” I liked spending time at his place, it was nice to feel like he was inviting me into his life. But with his sister living with him, it meant we had to me mindful of her. I loved being able to let loose and not worry about anyone else when we stayed at my place.

The day after Cole turned up at my apartment, I’d left Remy’s place and stormed into my father’s house. Determination running through me, I was getting my apartment back, hell I was getting my life back. I stepped right up to my father and told him the engagement was never happening and he needed to get on board with me or I’d walk right out of his life and never look back. Of course, he rolled his eyes, not taking my threat seriously but by the time I got back to my apartment Cole wasn’t there and my father never mentioned the E word again. As a matter of fact, Cole never did either. I saw him around the compound now and then, but we didn’t speak any more than me and the other guys did. Our past was exactly that, the past, and he was just another biker under my dad’s rule who went by the name of Chains.

I stared at Remy’s perfect arse as he walked out the building before flicking my eyes around the rest of the club counting the remaining customers and working out how long it would be before I could join Remy. As always, he’d wait for me in the car park, under the guise of having a smoke while waiting for a ride, he didn’t like the thought of me leaving without protection. Which was kind of funny when I was the most protected person in this place, not that he knew that. Just the thought stripped away my momentary humour and had a pang of guilt hitting me in the chest. I hated that he didn’t know my real identity, but I’d kept it from him for so long now, I could never seem to find the right time—or way—to tell him. I should have told him the night he told me about being a Sinister Crow, four days after our first night together. I opened my mouth with every intention of telling him my whole truth, but I choked and the chance passed.

My gaze fell to my brother who was frowning at the door Remy had just disappeared through. Fuck, had he recognised him? I’d thought Remy was doing a great job blending in. His club ink was always covered up and he sat with his head tilted away from anyone who was wearing a Vultures cut.

Fear overtook me and I abandoned the bar knowing I wasn’t really needed. Whoever opened the next day would collect and clean any of the straggling customers glasses. I pushed my way through the door and bolted across the carpark to Remy. I caught the look of surprise on his face before I barrelled into him.
