“Don’t come any closer.” She flicked off the safety. “I don’t wanna hurt anyone, but I swear if you don’t hear me out, I’m gonna start getting trigger happy and you know I don’t miss.”

Blaze straightened, switched off the torch, and turned his gaze on his daughter. “Princess. He knew what he was doing when he touched you. Crows don’t touch Vultures’ property without expecting retribution.”

“He didn’t know.” Her words were soft and full of shame and any anger I’d felt towards her for lying to me fell away.

“Everybody knows you’re my daughter, Jinx,” he growled his anger clear in his voice.

Fear sliced through me at the thought of him turning that anger on his daughter and I shifted in my chair, testing the binds that tied me to it. “Jez, go. You don’t need to see this.”

Quicker than I could track the movement, Blaze spun around and threw his fist at my face. “You don’t talk to her,” he snarled. The force of his punch snapped my head back and rocked the chair on its feet. Once it settled back in place, I wished it had gone right over because then I would have been free of these fucking ropes, and I could show him what my fists feel like against his face.

A shot rang out and Blaze stared down at his bicep and the smear of blood that was there. It took me a minute to realise that the crazy bitch had shot him. Jesus Christ my woman had shot her old man…for me. I couldn’t help but feel a little bit of pride at that.

“I warned you, Dad. He did nothing wrong. If anyone belongs in that chair it’s me.” She slammed a fist into her chest emphasising her words.

Blaze frowned before once again facing his daughter. “What are you talking about? He—”

“Didn’t know who I was,” she admitted cutting him off.

“I saw him chatting with you at Poochies.”

Jez sighed. “He was there checking on his sister and we got chatting. I told him my birthname, not my biker name.” Although she was talking to her father she didn’t once tear her eyes away from mine. “He thought I was just one of the girls.” Her shoulders slumped and I wanted to comfort her, but I was tied to the fucking chair and knew moving at all would only distract her father from what she was telling him.

“One of the girls…” Blaze repeated. “Why didn’t you correct him?”

She swallowed, and I could tell she didn’t want to admit whatever was coming next. “I didn’t want him to know who I was.” Blaze took in a sharp breath and Jez quickly carried on with her explanation. “It’s not what you’re probably thinking. I’m not ashamed of who I am, I promise you that Dad.” She stepped up to him with tears shining in her eyes and reached her hand out. From this angle I couldn’t see what she was touching but I assumed it was his hand or forearm. Her other hand was hanging by her side, the gun held loosely in her grip. “It was the first time I’d spoken to a guy who he actually liked my snarky comments. Our guys laugh along with me, but they’d never look at me for more than a princess to protect because I’m your daughter and they know you’d never approve. Outsiders hate my smart-arse mouth and they don’t want to take me home to their parents. All I’m good for is a wild fuck.”

I grunted my disapproval of that assessment because it was too close to what her father assumed was between the two of us and nobody should put Jez in the quick fuck category, she’s worth so much more than that. I told them both as much. “You are worth so much more than that.”

She glanced around her father at me and offered me a small smile full of gratitude. Even though it was one of the smallest ones I’d received from her it still lit my insides on fire. This beautiful woman did things to me nobody had ever come close to before.

“Remy was interested in me, and I liked him. I knew he was a Sinister Crow from the start even though he didn’t tell me at first, but I wanted to get to know him.”

“But you didn’t give him a chance to get to know you. You didn’t tell him who you were,” Blaze argued.

“He got to know me. The real me. The only thing I kept from him was my biker name and position. I told him all about my overbearing father and brother who want nothing more than to protect me but don’t see that they’re smothering me doing it.” Jez flicked her eyes from her father to me once again as she spoke her next words. “It’s not much different to how he treats his sister and the reason she came to work in Poochies in the first place.”

I nodded my head; my smothering of my sister was something we’d spoken about during our relationship and Jez had helped me see the errors I was making with Laci. Her advice had actually helped me have a stronger relationship with my sister and I owed her so much for that.

“In fact, you gave his sister a job knowing exactly who she was, so can’t you consider that and say you’re even.”

Blaze turned and looked between the two of us. “You got anything to say for yourself.”

I didn’t know if it was a trick question or not, but the dare in his eyes had me speaking before I could even consider the consequences. “I love your daughter. Enemies or not.”

He clicked on the blow torch again and stepped towards me menacingly. “You didn’t know who she was, but you do now, and you won’t be coming anywhere near my daughter again. Are we clear?”

“That isn’t going to work, Dad.” Jez sounded so certain, and I wanted to look at her to see what made her that way, but Blaze was in my face and blocking my view.

“Jinx, baby. You saved his life take that as a win and walk out of here. You won’t be seeing him again.” Blaze didn’t take his eyes off mine, but his voice was soft and gentle. He didn’t want to hurt her and that’s the only reason he was telling her I’d been saved.

“You’re forgetting that I know you. I don’t trust that you won’t kill him once I leave the room.” There was a rustle of material and I guessed she’d waved her hand dismissively. “And anyway, that’s beside the point. I need him in my life because I’m pregnant.”

It was like the air was sucked from the room. My lungs burned and the room spun, all I could hear was my heart beating in my ears. I suddenly realised I was holding my breath and quickly fixed that taking in a deep gasp of air. I was going to be a father. We’d never even spoken about kids or any further in the future than next week. But I didn’t need to know she was carrying my baby to know that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with the brave and smart mouthed woman before me.

I’d already known that the first moment I’d laid eyes on her and her dusky pink hair.
