JINX

I’d known about the pregnancy for a couple of days now and this wasn’t exactly how I wanted to break the news to Remy. We’d never even spoken about our futures and whether kids where in it. Hell, we hadn’t even discussed whether we planned to stay together long term. We were just living in the moment and loving each other. So, when I heard his intake of breath upon hearing my announcement, I couldn’t even look at him in fear of what I might see in his face. Instead, I focused on my father.

“Mum kept you away from me and Nick for the first few years of our lives. I won’t do the same thing to him. I won’t let you do the same thing to him. If he doesn’t want anything to do with me because of my lies, then that’s what I deserve, but I will not allow my child to be punished because of my actions.” I placed my hands over my stomach protectively as I thought about the baby I had growing in there.

“Fuck!” My dad threw the blow torch across the room, and thankfully far away from Remy. Seeing him wave that hot flame around Remy’s handsome face had been terrifying. I’m well aware of how my father got his biker name and did not want him showing it on my boyfriend’s body. “Bear, untie him and see that he gets out of here safely. I’ll call Ink and tell him to get someone to collect him.” Without another word my dad stormed towards the exit.

“I’ll take him home.” The offer was out my mouth before I could even think about whether Remy would even want me to take him home. It was my lies that got him in this mess after all. I looked at him questioningly. “If you’ll be okay with that?”

He looked from my father’s retreating back, to me, his lips pressed tightly together clearly holding whatever he wanted to say back and nodded in agreement.

A weight lifted off my shoulders and I breathed what was the first calm breath since I’d stepped into the room. “Okay.”

Bear untied Remy and passed him a bundle of clothes off the floor.

“Jinx, we have a lot to talk about, make sure you’re home for family dinner,” my father ordered drawing my attention back to him in time to watch him disappear through the door and out of sight. Bear followed, leaving me and Remy alone.

I guessed it was down to me to get him out of the club safely.

Remy was moving gingerly as he pulled on his clothes and the sight made me wince. He must have been in a lot of pain; I’d only heard some of the punches my brother gave him before he shoved him into the van and been witness to the one punch my father gave him, but from the way he was moving I knew there must have been plenty more I’d missed.

I held my hands out not knowing where to support him. “Do you need help?”

“No!” He snapped as he bent and tugged on his boots with a grimace.

My vision blurred as my eyes filled with tears. I felt like a complete shithead. My lies had caused all this, and I had no idea how I’d be able to make up for it.

Remy straightened and when his eyes connected with mine there was a softness there that I wasn’t expecting. “Come here,” he offered as he held out his arms.

I stepped into them without question, burying my face in his chest and inhaling the scent of him, sandalwood, leather and Remy.

“Was it true?” Unsure what he was referring to I leant back and looked up into his face, my brow furrowed in confusion. There was a trail of dried blood from his lip to his beard. And both his eyes were swollen, with purple bruising, I was surprised he could even see through them at all. “The pregnancy. Are you really pregnant?”

It was like a punch to the gut that he’d think I would lie about something like that, but I couldn’t exactly blame him. I’d lied throughout our whole relationship over these last couple of months by not telling him the truth about the Vultures and who I was to them. I buried the hurt and nodded my head at him. “Yeah, Remy. You’re gonna be a daddy. I have an ultrasound appointment in a couple of days, I was going to tell you about it when we got back to my place, but my brother derailed that plan.” I suddenly wondered if he’d even believe it was his and offered the only thing I could think of to make him believe. “You can ask the doctor about a DNA test at the appointment if you want that…or need it.”

“Sweetness,” He cradled my face in his hands tilting it, so I had no option but to lock gazes with him. “I don’t need or want that. If you say the baby is mine, I believe.” He pressed a barely-there kiss against my lips and hissed at the contact on his split lip. “You never lied to me. You omitted the truth and had good reason to. You didn’t lie. Okay?”

I nodded in agreement unable to get any words beyond the lump in my throat.

“Right then, get me out of here before I crash in enemy territory. I can feel my adrenaline draining fast.” Remy offered me a wink and although he sounded like he was joking I could see from his pained stare and pursed lips that there was a truth behind his words.

Chapter Fifteen

ROOSTER

Jez was propping me up as she led me out the Vultures clubhouse through what seemed to be a back door. I didn’t know if it was just a quiet night or whether Blaze had made sure nobody was around because we didn’t pass anyone on our journey out. We stumbled nearly going down on the dirt in the carpark, my weight becoming too much for Jez’s small frame to bear.

“Shit. Two more metres, Rem. Then you can rest.”

My eyes darted around the dark carpark, and I found myself chuckling ending with a pained hiss when I realised what vehicle she was taking us to. It was the same plain silver van that I’d been brought in. Only this time I’d be sitting in the passenger seat not trussed up like a fucking pig in the back.

Jez glanced up at me her eyes wide in surprise. Then she followed my line of sight she grimaced. “I’m sorry. It’s the only thing I know will have the keys in it.”

“It’s all good, Sweetness,” I offered between shallow breaths. The trip was taking it out of me, and every breath was beginning to burn. Jez practically shoved me into the passenger seat, before buckling me in. I didn’t think wearing a seatbelt would matter considering how injured I already was, but I didn’t fight her on it. Hell, I didn’t have the energy to fight.

The sound of the engine turning over was the last thing I heard before everything was shrouded in blackness.

Raised voices pulled me back to consciousness. “This fucker is heavy.” The male voice was familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it in my foggy mind.
