I haven’t heard a woman say that to me in a long time. To be honest, I think I love her too.
No, that’s bullshit.
I know I love her too.
But we can’t do this. It would never work, and both of us would get hurt in the process.
It’s better to have a clean break.
How do I ensure that happens? I do what I do best.

Chapter Twenty
KATARINA
The following morning, I wake up to an empty bed—no Dominic next to me. I look all around the room but don’t see him.
Then, I hear him on the phone in the other room. He’s saying goodbye to whoever is on the other end, and I hope he comes back in to climb back in bed with me.
My hopes are quickly dashed, though, when he walks back in, fully dressed and ready to start the day.
“Morning,” I greet with a smile.
All I get in return is a cold, “Hi.”
Clearly, he’s not having a good morning. I try to turn his mood around by saying, “Do you want to come back to bed and have some fun?”
“Can’t. I have to get back to work.”
“Oh. Well, do you want to do something later on?”
He replies, “Can’t do that either. You have a plane to catch.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’ve informed the pilot of my personal plane that you’ll be flying home today.”
“You have a plane?!” I shriek.
He nods. “You don’t want to get on a regular plane with a suitcase full of cash.”
He walks over to me and tosses a black suitcase on the bed when he says it.
I open it and see stacks of cash inside. I have the money, and our week is over, yet I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness wash over me.
Sadness and anger. Anger at how much of a dick he’s being right now.
“So, that’s it?” I ask. “You fuck me all week, and then, you just toss a case of money at me?”
“That was our deal.”
“That was before…everything. How could you just tell me it’s over?”
