“So, you won’t take it?”

“I want to make another deal.” Leaning forward in her seat, she continues, “I will let you give me part of this money, BUT I have to earn it.”

“And how do you plan on doing that?”

“Well, I’ll just have to stay here…with you…for another week.”

“And what if I want you to take all the money?” I ask.

“I guess I’ll have to stay quite a bit longer than the week.”

“What about a fresh start and all that?”

She stands up and walks over to me, settling herself in my lap. “I’ve heard that Vegas is a great place to settle down. And to quote someone I know, ‘Where better to settle down than America’s Playground?’”

“He sounds like a wise man,” I tease.

“He’s a dumbass,” she sighs. “But he’s my dumbass.”

“Why is he so dumb?” I ask.

“Because he about let the best thing that’s ever happened to him walk out the door just because he’s convinced he’s a terrible person. If he sees it that way, fine, I’m terrible with him. I slept with a man for money. What does that make me?”

“You know, this probably won’t work, Kitten. I’m arrogant and set in my ways.”

“And I’m stubborn. So, we will fight and then have fantastic make-up sex. Let me make this painfully obvious to you, Delgado. I’m not going anywhere, and you’re stuck with me. Deal with it.”

Without overthinking the words, I blurt, “I love you.”

Before kissing me, she mumbles, “That’s the first smart thing you’ve said.”

Lifting her, I carry her over to the bed. I go to lay her down, but she stops me and whispers, “Fuck me in front of the window, Delgado.”
