I’ve scared her, apparently. She swallows, and I drop her wrist, pissed that I reacted so openly at the mention of that piece-of-shit Parker and his goons. I hold her keys out, and as soon as her fingers clasp around them, I pull her to me, biting my lip when her small body crashes against mine.

“Now say.” Big blue eyes widen when she feels my erection crushed into her stomach. “Thank you, Jamieson,” I instruct, smirking when her breathing turns choppy and her eyes flare under my appreciative stare. I wonder how peaceful it would be to sink inside this woman.

I take the same strand that refuses to do as it’s told, and spiral it around my index finger, luring her closer.

“Thank you, Jamieson,” she whispers in a soft voice as her breath fans over my jaw. Fuck me, I want this girl.

“If you were mine, I'd show you how to properly say thank you.” Her irises spark like a blue flame. I drop my mouth to her ear, making sure to run my lip across the shell, grinning when she shudders. “If you were mine, I'd be fucking you in my car right now.” Slowly, I release her hand as Tia saunters down the wide steps of her hotel.

My girl gasps and quickly shoots off down the street. I watch her go, enjoying how her toned limbs move and her pert arse sways.

“Rubin, find out who that woman is.”

Chapter Three

AVERY

ONE WEEK LATER…

He’s going to get off. Parker Judd and his sick friends. I can’t believe those killers are going to go free. The police claim it was a burglary gone wrong, but I refuse to believe that. Jeff’s death is more than what the police are pawning it off as. Fingers don’t get cut off in burglaries. It was personal, and Jeff’s family needs closure and justice. I can give them that. I owe it to them and Jeff. The burden of this lie is killing me.

With any luck, Simon will be more relaxed and we can both move on and in different directions. I’m ready to say goodbye to that part of my life and start a new chapter.

I want explicit chemistry like I shared with Jamieson, the key thief. I want to learn how to say thank you properly, because I know for certain, a man like Jamieson doesn't just fuck for his own pleasure. There was something so thrillingly dominant about that man. I don’t ever expect to cross paths with him again, but I sure as hell want something similar.

Before any of this happened, I was ready to call it quits with Simon. I want adventure and excitement; I want to explore the world and make memories, not work in the local café like I have been doing all these years so that Simon could pursue his dreams. I can’t help feeling like he is holding me back. I know there is something greater out there for me, and I want to grasp it with both hands and let it engulf me.

I pace in front of the police station and suck in a deep breath, fighting off the nausea swirling in my gut. People will judge me for withholding information. Not to mention, I could be charged. I have no priors, so hopefully any charges will be minimal, and I can rebuild and move on from here.

I’m putting Simon in a difficult position; he knew Jeff was involved with something and he used his own fear to control me. I head for the main desk and see an officer chatting to the receptionist. Both turn on my arrival.

“Hi.” I clear my throat. “Sorry to interrupt.” I offer a shaky smile.

“Not at all. How can I help?” It’s the man who speaks, not the receptionist.

“I’m here to report a crime.” The phone rings, and I jump, noticeably on edge. The receptionist picks it up, but I continue on, “Well, actually, I’m coming forward with information about the Clemmins & Belk murder. I was a witness,” I confess, my mouth suddenly dry; every swallow feels as though it’s going against a bruise.

The officer’s eyes widen.

“Come this way.” I follow nervously. No going back now. I’m terrified about what will happen to me for not coming forward sooner. “Thank you for coming in, Miss...?”

“Anderson. Avery Anderson,” I confirm.

“Anderson, you’re Simon Belk’s girlfriend?” the officer mutters. He’s clearly not impressed with me. Oh shit, I’m in so much trouble.

I simply nod, my mouth turning down with guilt. When Jeff’s body was found, we claimed to know nothing. I don’t recognise this officer from our last visit here.

“If you can take a seat in there, I need to contact the detective on the case.” He glares at me, and my eyes fill with tears.

I walk in and the officer stands by the door, allowing me in. I wander over to the table.

“Am I going to get in trouble?” I whisper, wiping away a stray tear.

His brow lifts in a what do you think expression.

“Can I get you some water?” I shake my head, and he leaves me alone with my thoughts.

Tick.
