“Stop or she dies,” Titan shouts.

The knife digs into my skin, and a warm trickle slides down my neck. His thumb touches the base of my neck, and he starts to take my power. After the show I’ve just put on, I’m already feeling weak. I don’t know how close Titan was to his mother, but I don’t think he’ll kill me. That doesn’t mean he won’t use me to get what he wants, though.

Once he has everyone’s attention, he continues. “You’re going to let us go. Rose is mine.”

“What about taking our revenge on their coven?” someone from the Wolfbane coven asks.

Will he betray them?

“Rose killed both his parents. It’s us that will be taking our revenge,” someone shouts.

“In love and war, I choose love. Rose is mine. I won’t let you kill her, and I won’t let the Wolfbane’s keep her,” he says.

Purple smoke starts to rise from the ground by my feet until we’re surrounded. I start to cough, which should push me farther onto the blade at my throat, but he doesn’t seem to be there anymore. I feel like I can’t breathe and everything goes dark. The last thing I see is Titan’s eyes, black like coal. He looks scary and beautiful at the same time. The last thing I hear is his voice saying, “I love you.”

Then I lose consciousness. I can’t defend my people or my decision to put them first. All I can do is trust Titan knows what he’s doing.

I’m chained to a bed when I wake, dressed in black, lacy underwear. There’s some kind of collar around my neck that isn’t uncomfortable, but I know it’s there. Flames burn bright in what looks like a small cave.

“Am I in hell?” I think out loud.

Titan’s eyes are still black as night, with no other colour in his irises. He looks sinful with his bare chest and leather pants. This is the real Titan. Not the bored prince or the helpful Samaritan. “This is my heaven, but you can call it what you want,” he says without kindness in his voice.

“So now I’m your prisoner?” I ask, tugging at the chains.

“Do you wish to leave?” His lips thin out while he waits for my answer.

“No,” I say honestly.

“Then you are not.”

“Let me out of these chains, then.”

“Once I can trust you not to leave, I will.”

“Ouch. That kind of stings. I’m not your enemy, Titan.”

“All I care about is us being together and nobody standing in our way.”

“We can’t stay in this cave forever.”

“There’s a bloodstone in a faraway land that’s said to work with the moonstone as a blood substitute…”

He wants to make a true home with me. I like that idea. "If that’s true, why has nobody gone to retrieve it?”

“Witches have tried to find the stone before, but it’s in a dangerous place. Nobody has ever returned home.”

“So why would we go after it?” My pulse quickens with excitement.

“Because it would mean we could have a realm all to ourselves.”

It sounds like heaven. “Don’t you think people will come after us if we don’t share the power?”

“They can try.” I should be afraid of our toxic relationship, and he should be punishing me for what I’ve done, but in a twisted way, we’re soul mates. “Don’t you feel it in your heart? You can trust me. I love you as much as you love me. You kidnapping me means I feel free to follow you to the end of the world.”

“You’re not furious I stole you away from your people?”
