She pushed the trunk away and crossed her legs. It was only then I noticed she was sitting in just a baggy t-shirt.

“What I said, I’m not sure we can go on like this. I don’t want to lose myself. It was easy at first, all we did was argue. When did things take a turn?”

I released her chin and cupped her face with my palms and rubbed my thumbs across her soft skin. “Em, please don’t do this.”

“You could have got in trouble for me tonight and that’s not fair,”

“This has nothing to do with that scumbag, so tell me the truth. When are you going to face your real feelings, Em? Yes, this started with the money but I wanted you so much more.”

“How do I know that I can trust you to keep my heart safe? I can’t and therein lies the problem between us.”

“I know how I feel about you; can you say the same, because if not then yeah maybe we should renege on our arrangement.”

“Why, so you can keep all the money?”

I leant back and my hands dropped. I couldn’t believe she thought so little of me. “Seriously?” My forehead tightened with a frown. I looked into her eyes; they were so sad. Her straight hair that skimmed the top of her back earlier didn’t look so perfect now and was sat on the top of her head in a messy kind of bun and there was black mascara smudged around her eyes. “Do you really think I would be sitting here right now and pouring out my heart if it was just about the money. Fuck Emily,” I chewed on my gum and huffed. I’d spent the last few weeks trying to get Emily to trust me, I wasn’t sure it was working; I was starting to think that no matter how much time she spent with me, it wouldn’t be long enough to fix the hurt I’d caused her. I shifted away and stood up and turned to the fireplace. I gripped the edge of the mantlepiece and dropped my head between my arms.

Her warm hands trailed up my back, “Troy?”

“What?” Yes, I sounded grumpy. I was tired, I needed sleep, but my head was too full of emotion.

“Look at me.” I turned around at her request. “Tell me. Tell me how you really feel.”

“I love you, Em. You can have everything I own. I don’t care about the money; I don’t care about the house or the cars. I think I loved you when you were seventeen, I was just too swayed by everything to think about anything else. I had everything, Em. Power, money, cars.

“You turned into my dad.”

“I’m sorry.”

She pushed up and pressed her lips against mine in a soft kiss. “I’m not ready to give you all of me just yet but I'm willing to try this if you are. I think at some point we need to go over everything that happened though.”

“We will.”

“But for tonight how about we leave this here and we go back to bed, because there’s one thing that I want from you…”

“Name it. You can have anything.”

“Don’t laugh, but I want a cuddle. I want to lie in your arms and know that someone actually loves me.”

I bent down, cupped my hands beneath her bum and lifted her into my arms while her legs went around my hips. “You can have as many cuddles as you want, sweetheart. I kissed her again and took her back to bed. She snuggled up close and with her cheek laid against my chest we soon drifted back to sleep.

The End (for now)
