“Seems like they like me.” I wagged my eyebrows at her, making her chuckle.
“Yeah, I bet.”
I’ve finally convinced her to get an iPhone so that we can have a more direct way to communicate versus using social media applications. She was walking around her apartment, settling down from her day. Normally, this was the best part of her day. Coming home and stripping her job off of her one piece of clothing at a time. Today, she seemed really exhausted and hadn’t bothered threatening to strip tease for me. It was a threat because she’d established a rule that I couldn’t satisfy myself after. I found it worthwhile, even if I had to wait until the next day for a release.
“Are you going to go to bed early today?” I knew it was early Friday evening for her, but she seemed needed to relax.
“No, I think I’m going to go catch a movie with friends. I…” Anise yawned a long, satisfying yawn she tried to hide. She used her free hand to rub her sleepy eyes before another yawn pulled her in. “Oh, goodness!”
“Exactly, tell you what. Before you go, can you at least try to relax a bit? Maybe take a bath and even a catnap?”
Anise nodded, but another yawn stifled her response. “Yes, I can do that. I’m not sure what’s up this week. My headaches won't go away and I'm exhausted. I’ll just text her and see if we can go to the later one.”
I stretched out on my bed with my laptop sitting beside me. I made sure that my hands were out of view before I opened the box that I was holding. The bridal set shined out of the box at me. Diamonds sparkled at me as I wondered again if it was the right choice. When you proposed to somebody, it had to be right. There was only one first impression. Everything needed to be perfect. The place, the time, the audience, the mood, the girl, and the ring.
“What are you doing? You’re not even listening to me.” I heard the squeak of the pipes as she turned on the water to run her bath.
“I am listening.” Truth was that I hadn’t heard a single thing.
The past month has completely changed me. The distance between Anise and me was eating me alive. I wanted to touch her, feel her come alive in my arms. Then sometimes I wanted to hold her like I’d done on the last night that we were physically together. Now was one of those times. She looked more tired than she’d ever be willing to admit.
“Lavender, eucalyptus, or lemon?”
“Am I eating dessert or trying to calm down a beast?” I glanced over at the screen to see Anise undressing out of her work clothes. I hissed, seeing her almost bare for me. She was stunning. Of course, I’ve been encouraging her to eat more. Her curves were filling out just like I preferred. Her stomach had a small pooch. And from this angle, her breasts seemed fuller. When she turned to the side to look at herself in the mirror, I could see her frowning.
“Neither. I’m putting it into my bath water.”
“Oh, so dessert?”
“Ha ha ha… Mister.”
“Eucalyptus. I think it’ll help you relax more. And stop looking at my body that way. It’s beautiful.”
“Your body? When has that become a thing?”
“Always. I’ve just always allowed you to think that it was yours. It’s been mine for a long time, Anise.”
“Behave, Raph. I need to bathe.”
“You can. I’m just glad that I get the joy of watching you.”
“Ugh. I’ve gained so much weight from eating for you. I need to get back to working out.”
“You can in order to make sure that you’re healthy. You can tone it. But don’t you do anything about trying to get back down to that horrible size you were. You needed a burger.”
“Raph!” she screamed at me. “You act like I haven’t taught you ANY manners in all this time.”
“I know what I like.”
“I’m ignoring you.” Anise took off her bra and panties, making my mouth water. She really was beautiful.
“It just gives me longer to stare at you, beautiful.”
“No, it doesn’t.” Anise picked up the phone and climbed into the sudsy bathtub.
“Hey!”
Anise smiled and leaned back against the back of the tub. Her eyes closed and I could see the tension fading from her tense features already.
