“You’re leaving me all alone? I thought this was a guys’ night?”

“Don’t worry. Your date’s here too. You can thank me later.” Andre smirked and nodded towards the door.

Remy had slipped in with another woman he didn’t recognize. Andre walked towards the women and introduced them. “Tiffany, this is my brother from another mother, Mikel.”

“Nice to meet you,” she said, her eyes raking over him.

“You too,” he said, shifting uncomfortably before turning his attention to Remy. His eyes skated over the short light-pink dress she wore that hugged all her curves in the right places. She’d changed her hair. Long braids fell around her shoulders with gold embellishments strewn throughout. His very own Cleopatra.

“Let’s leave these two kids to their own fun.” Dre winked and led Tiffany off to the bar.

Remy smiled, shyly. “Are you surprised?”

“Yeah. I was counting down the minutes until I could leave these two assholes and come find you.”

Her eyes lit up.

“You look gorgeous.”

“Thank you.”

“That dress should be illegal. Don’t know how I’m gonna be able to keep my hands off you.”

She walked up and kissed him. “Dance with me?”

“I’d do anything for you.” He smiled, taking her hand and leading her towards the crowd.

He pulled her against him in the center of the masses, surrounded by walls of people. His hands weaved around her hips as his leg nudged between her thighs. The smell of sweat and mixed perfumes enveloped them. She gripped the fabric of his shirt, leaning up to kiss him as they moved to the beat of the music. The song was slow, perfect for grinding her hot little body against his.

They swayed, caught up in every sensation. Compounded and magnified. He ached for her with every cell in his body. Her scent coated him in a haze of lust. When she was with him, something inside him snapped every time, causing him to become uncontrolled and unhinged. Emotions he’d long ago buried, some he had only dreamt about, came rushing to the surface, threatening to drown him. Love possessed him, warring with the alarm pulsing in the back of his mind, cautioning him. Being this vulnerable would eventually break the parts of him that remained into jagged pieces.

“Let’s get out of here,” Mikel suggested.

Remy nodded, arousal evident in her eyes.

He led her to his truck before opening the door for her. She climbed in and he walked over to his side of the car. A scrap of paper on his windshield caught his attention. He picked it up, unfolding it carefully.

You owe me. I’m gonna collect. One way or another.

Chills skated down his spine as he crumpled the paper, searching the parking lot. A dark and ominous warning threaded through every nerve ending.

He needed to find a way to pay Joe back without working off his debt, in order to keep his promise to Remy. Fifty grand was a lot of money to come up with out of thin air. Not to mention that Joe knew his secret.

If the truth came out, it might be too late to send him to prison, but it would destroy his relationship with his family. Legal options were out of the question. He couldn’t ask Bently for help and risk the inquiry and the disappointment. His brother’s moral compass would only cause a gap between them.

But that left one burning question. What am I gonna do?
