“I love you more than all the stars in the sky.” Remy hugged the little girl before walking towards the door.

“You can stay out all night. Lyra can come with me. Tiffany is on a business trip again, so I could use the company,” Andre offered.

Green hot flames of jealousy burned his insides. He was too late. Remy had found someone. He had no right, no claim on her, but every cell in his body protested.

Remy glanced his way shyly for a moment before shaking her head. “I’ll be back by eight.”

“Have fun with Aaron,” Andre said, driving the knife in deeper.

She waved goodbye to Lyra, carefully avoiding his gaze before she turned and left the room. Pulled like a magnet in her direction, he wanted to grab her arm and stop her—push her against the car and remind her that she was his, that he had known every part of her first. He clenched his jaw, fisting his hands as he tried to get control of himself.

“Daddy, can we play Candy Land?” The sweet little voice interrupted the war going on in his mind and body. Those big brown eyes and that cute face grounded him in the present moment, reminding him why he was here.

My daughter.
