“Okay.” She encouraged him, giving him her full attention.
“I stayed away from you thinking you’d be safer without me, better off. I still managed to fuck everything up by not being here. I want to be in our daughter’s life and yours—more than anything—but I’ll respect whatever you choose after hearing what I have to tell you.”
He leaned down, his lips meeting hers, soft and slow, as if he was savoring this moment too. Her heart ached for him as her body begged for more.
He broke the kiss, resting his forehead against hers as he spoke. “I’ve never told a living soul my secret. I can’t give you all the details because they are not mine alone to tell. I know you’re gonna look at me differently after this. But you must know who I truly am and what I’m capable of before you decide. You have to see all my darkness.”
Her body trembled alive with his touch and the mystery of his foreboding words. Her chest tightened as her heart raced, his confession could change everything. She searched his bronze eyes, now seeming darker as he cleared his throat and locked his gaze to hers.
“I killed my father.”
