Her eyes darted to his mouth.

“Can I kiss you?”

She licked her lips, gaze flicking to her sleeping daughter before returning to his. “Okay. But there’s something I need to tell you.”

“I’m all ears.” He leaned over, brushing his mouth against her soft, pink lips. She tasted like sunshine and strawberries. Heat melted him from the inside out. His heart raced, his pulse jumped. He’d never felt anything like it: complete and utter rapture from just the slightest touch of this woman. She pulled away, resting her head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around her, Zoey sleeping between them. Never had he felt this complete, this right before.

What are you doing to me?

“Atlas?”

His spine stiffened. That whiny voice was unmistakable. He turned around and stood. Veronica sneered from the porch. Her designer handbag was clutched to her chest with her perfectly manicured nails.

What the fuck is she doing here?

Mother.

“There you are. I missed you.” She clicked her heels down the wooden stairs. Her eyes narrowed on Jasmine. He needed to get Veronica away from her. The socialite was vicious when she wanted to be.

“What are you doing here?” he snapped, walking over to her.

“Your mother told me where you were staying. I thought I’d surprise you and we could talk about the engagement party.” Her voice rose.

Atlas cut a look towards Jasmine. Her face fell before resignation transformed her expression into a stoic mask.

Shit.

“You wasted your time. Let’s go. I’ll show you the door.” He grabbed Veronica’s arm and pulled her towards the inn, away from Jasmine and Zoey. He needed to get them out of Veronica’s sight before his two worlds could collide.
