“Charli-baby?” He licked her nipple, scissoring his teeth over the light brown bud.

“Mm-hmm.” She tipped her head to the side.

“That was the best experience of my life.” He grinned.

The corners of her mouth turned up in a bittersweet smile as her chest squeezed. Memories of the day he’d asked her to marry him, their wedding day, and the moment she’d told him they were pregnant were all lost to him. At least we’re making new ones.

“But now, I want to make you come all over my mouth.”

Her smile fell as she swallowed at his husky promise. “What are you waiting for?”

Finn crashed his mouth back to hers. Finally. Finally. Finally.

Knock. knock.

He pulled his face from hers and shifted as if to block her body from the door. Tom’s voice came through the closed exit. “Just wanted to make sure you two were all right.”

“Yes, we’ll be right out,” Finn said.

“We’re coming,” Charli added giving him a smirk, making her innuendo clear.

Finn gave her a goofy smile. “Come on. Let’s finish this at home.” He tossed her the pink bra and her white-and-black-striped T-shirt.

She bit her lip. He rushed to get his clothes on. Finn was back—at least, glimpses of him. This could work. They would get through this. Together.

Charli

Charli laughed as Finn scrambled to open the passenger door for her before the rain soaked them. He ran to the driver’s side of the car and dove in, shutting them out of the steady drizzle. He wrapped his hand around her wrist and brought her in for a kiss before the most satisfied smile crossed his lips. Warm light spread from her chest to the tips of her fingers and toes. She couldn’t contain her glee. Her belly fluttered and flipped with excitement. It was like a piece of her life had finally been put back together after the hell of Finn’s accident. There was no way she was letting this moment go without taking full advantage of it.

He started the engine, then pulled out of the parking lot. His hand darted out to capture hers as he steered them to their destination. The windshield wipers were the only sound besides their rapid breaths.

“I can’t believe we just did that . . . in there.” He shook his head. Droplets of water cascaded down his temple, weaving around his angled jaw.

“Just like old times,” she mused.

He met her gaze and smiled before focusing on the road. “When we get home, it’s your turn.” His thumb rubbed a circle over her hand, a gesture he’d made countless times before the accident.

He turned onto their road. The last time she’d pushed him, he’d taken off and avoided her for three days. She didn’t want that to happen again.

“You don’t have to, Finn. It’s okay. I don’t want you to feel pressured.”

He pulled into the driveway and shut off the engine before turning to her, his eyebrows drawn together. “I want to taste you. I want to know what that beautiful face looks like when you come apart. But if you want to wait, I can be patient.”

She licked her lips and clenched her thighs together. A mix of old love spun into new appreciation and affection. Her belly fluttered. “I . . . I can’t handle if you pull away from me again after this and repeat what happened last time.”

He placed her hand against his mouth and brushed his lips over her knuckles. “I won’t run this time. Promise.”

She nodded. “I want you.”

He tore out of the car and ran around to her side before she’d even opened the door. She took his hand and they dashed towards the house. The cold rain drizzled over them and pelted the tin roof. He pulled out his keys, body trembling. Her heart squeezed tight. The door opened and then his hands were on her, slipping her coat off her shoulders, letting it drop in a pile on the floor. She kicked her boots off frantically next to his. His hungry eyes were glued to her as he struggled to remove his wet jacket. Heat unfurled in her belly, spreading to her extremities as a wolfish smile broke out on his handsome face. It was a familiar expression; one she hadn’t realized she’d missed as much as she did until this moment. Shoving their shoes out of the way with his foot, he picked her up in his arms.

She let out a squeal. “Finn!” Her arms instinctively curled around his neck.

“You won’t fall. I’ve got you.”

His words spun up and twisted inside her with a blend of longing and adoration. She clung to his promises as he set her onto the countertop in the kitchen and stepped back. He bit his lip, his gaze roaming over her with lust-filled appreciation. She shivered, not from the cold, but anticipation. There was a glimpse of the old Finn in the way that he looked at her as if she were the most beautiful creature in the world.
