The drunk guy stood a little taller. “Who the fuck you think you are, telling me what I can or can’t do?”

“Let’s everybody calm down. We’re getting ready to close soon. And you’ve reached your limit, sir. I’m gonna go ahead and call you a ride.” Charli tapped her phone screen as the man’s hand shot out and grabbed her arm.

“I don’t—”

Finn didn’t think. He reacted. Pure, rage-fueled adrenaline shot through his system as he jumped over the bar, his fist flying to meet the drunk guy’s jaw.

A stool crashed and someone screamed. Finn saw red. Protect Charli was his only objective. He lifted his fist and brought it down again, bone crunching under his knuckles.

Someone grabbed his arm as he brought it up, he shoved them away before swinging his fist into the bastard who’d dared to lay a hand on his wife.

This time the hands that grabbed him were made of steel. A headlock stole his air.

“Stop! It’s me,” Mason commanded. “Someone check on Charli.”

Charli? What was wrong with his wife? Finn tapped the arm that locked him in place.

Mason released him. Finn took one look at the drunk bleeding all over the ground, his hazy eyes now shining with fear.

Finn spun around, searching for Charli, wanting to make sure she was okay. Every customer surrounding them just stared openmouthed.

“What the fuck were you thinking?” Mason growled, bending over and grabbing someone’s hand from the floor.

No.

Charli winced, holding her belly as she got to her feet.

“Baby—”

She held out her hand, tears glistening in her eyes as she shook her head. “Don’t come near me.”

Mason wrapped an arm around her, guiding her to the back room.

“Everybody out!” Finn yelled before turning to the waitress. “Get them out and lock up.”

The man he’d beaten wobbled to his feet, taking off through the doors first. What the fuck did I do?

Finn followed his wife, opening the door to the office. Mason stepped in front of her protectively, as if Finn was a danger to Charli. But I wasn’t the one who tried to hurt her.

“Shit, Charli, I’m so sorry. Do we need to go to the hospital? I didn’t know you were behind me. I—”

“I’m fine. I just want to go home.” She wiped her eyes, getting to her feet.

“Do you want me to drive you?” Mason asked.

Finn’s fists clenched.

Charli glanced at Finn, her eyes full of pain. “No. Finn can take me. Could you close up for me?”

“Of course,” Mason said.

“Thank you.” Charli walked towards the door. Finn stepped aside so she could pass.

Mason’s hand clamped on his shoulder before he could follow. “Do you realize what happened tonight?”

Finn shrugged away. “Yeah, I fucked up. Again.”

Mason ground his teeth and shook his head. “You need help, Finn. Things are getting worse. Don’t choose your pride over your family.”
