“You sound just like Dad.” She laughed.

His smile dimmed just a little before he scanned the room. “Think he would have liked this place?”

“It does have his favorite beer,” she noted, tugging Link’s menu from his hand.

His eyebrows drew together in question.

“Trust me and let me order for you. Promise you won’t regret it,” she said.

He shrugged. “Okay.”

A moment later, a young man appeared with their drinks. “Here you go. I’m Will, and I’ll be your server tonight. Did you decide what you want to order?”

She handed over the menus. “We’ll have two of the house special burgers with fries and a side of ranch, please.”

“Coming right up.” Will turned and left.

Emma stood. “I’m gonna use the bathroom. Be right back.”

She didn’t wait for his acknowledgement before she wove through the tables towards the restrooms. After doing her business and washing her hands, she set out for the one woman she wanted to see.

“Delia?”

The bronze beauty turned around, her nose ring flashing in the overhead lights. “Emma? I didn’t know you were in town.” Delia hugged her.

“Just passing through. I wondered if you could do me a favor?”

Delia smirked, tracing her bottom lip with her tongue. “Well, I do owe you for that night with Tony. Is it the same kind of favor? ’Cause I gotta tell ya, girl, I’ve been itching for another threesome.”

Emma laughed. “Nothing like that. I was hoping you could hook me and Link up with some timeslots.” She nodded towards the stage.

Delia’s smile grew. “Abso-fuckin’-lutely. Am I announcing you by your name or are you going incognito?” She flicked Emma’s cap.

“I’d like to try to stay anonymous if possible.”

“You got it, girl. Give me a little bit.”

Emma gave her friend another hug before darting out to the car and grabbing her guitar. She handed it over to Delia before making her way back to Link. If he’d seen her little detour, he didn’t mention it. Half his beer was gone. She had some catching up to do.

“Get lost?” Link teased as she sat down.

“Ran into an old friend.” She winked.

Link’s jaw tightened as he took a look around the room. Emma gulped her cocktail, welcoming the warmth that spread from her throat to her stomach.

Will delivered their meals, and after a suspicious glance at the fried egg on his burger, Link bit into it before moaning his approval. Another round of drinks had conversation flowing about the shop and them getting caught up on movies, current events, and all the news from Shattered Cove that she’d missed these past three months.

“Want another?” She pointed to the empty beer bottle in his hand.

He shook his head.

“We can take a cab to the hotel if you want to let loose?” she offered.

“Nah, I’m good.”

Did he not want to get drunk with her because of what happened last time?

She plucked her glass from the table, swallowing the last of the dark liquid. The warm buzzing of the rum filled her veins, relaxing her.
