Bently nodded. “This have anything to do with the letter Pippa found today?”

Mason's shoulders tensed as he got to his feet. “What letter?”

Bently looked away. “I thought you knew. I figured you two . . . talked.”

“What letter?” Mason growled.

“You know I can’t share that with you. I shouldn’t have said anything to begin with. I was under the impression you two were seeing each other.”

Why didn’t she tell me? “It’s complicated.”

His friend chuckled. “Isn’t it always? You should get some ice on that hand.” Bently turned and walked towards his truck.

Mason slipped out his phone, scrolling over their conversation again. As much as he hated it, Pippa was guarded again. Because of me. But how could he prove to her that he would be there for her if she didn’t let him in?

She doesn’t believe me.

Pippa owned him, body and soul. He wouldn’t have it any other way. It was time he showed her exactly what that meant to him.
