She took a deep breath. Dios, this was hard. “That doesn’t change where we are now. You’re a grown man who made decisions that broke my trust.”

He nodded. “I know. But I’m done blaming others for my mistakes . . . is there any chance I could earn back your trust?”

She took a deep breath. “Honestly, I don’t know.”

The hope dimmed in his gaze. He cleared his throat and leaned in. “I love you with my whole heart, Pippa Davis. And if my actions have fucked up any chance we had, I’ll regret them for the rest of my life.” His chest inflated before he let out a large exhale, like he needed a fortifying breath for whatever he was going to say next. “But I’ll find a way to live with that and still be here for you and our children. If you just want to co-parent with me, I’ll respect your wishes. It isn’t anywhere close to what I want, but if it will bring you happiness . . . you deserve the world. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you are taken care of.” His voice cracked. “And I’ll never stop loving you.”

He reached out, drawing his knuckles across her jaw. She shivered from his warm electric touch and closed her eyes.

Everything in her was screaming to fall into his arms.

But sometimes you could love someone with your whole heart and it wasn’t enough. Her trust in him had been shattered. And it would take a long time for him to earn that back. Maybe forever.
