Mason leaned in so that he was close enough to taste her sweet breath. “I’ll wait as long as it takes until you realize I’m not going anywhere. My home is you. My heart is yours. And, for the rest of my life, I will spend every waking moment trying to be the man you deserve and doing everything in my power to have you never doubt my love and commitment for you again.”

She closed her eyes, tears glistening, trapped in her lashes. His chest tightened. He hated that he’d been the cause of so much of her pain. That stopped today.

He pressed his forehead to hers, his nose resting on the other side of hers before he gently kissed the corner of her mouth. She trembled in his arms, and his cock jerked. Tingles raced down his spine as he breathed her in and savored this moment. Having Pippa in his arms made his heart race. He needed a lifetime more of this, right here. He wanted to lift her against him and take her on the desk, show her how much pleasure her body was capable of. He needed to sink into her heat and connect with her, feel her quake around him.

But that wasn’t what she needed. Not yet. She needed him to keep his promise. So he used his remaining strength to pull back from her.

“Why don’t you try it out?” He nodded to the hidden door.

She shook her head as if dazed before focusing on the shelf. She tapped her finger to her lips as if thinking. “Which one could be the lever? . . . Oh.” An amused smile curled her lips.

Pippa’s amber eyes sparkled as she flicked her gaze to him. “Really? Of all the books you could have chosen to let me into my secret room. I should have guessed you’d pick this one.”

He shrugged, with a grin. “Wanted you to think of me every time you did something that made you happy.”

She reached up and pulled the top of the Beauty and the Beast novel from the shelf.

The lever clicked as it released, and Mason pulled the door open for her. “This is it. The moment of truth.”

Pippa beamed as she pushed past him to peek inside. Her hands clasped over her mouth, and her eyes grew round. “Oh my God. You did all this?” She stepped inside, Lady following.

“Aspen got me screenshots from your Pinterest board and Brynn helped me decorate. Andre supplied the building expertise, so it wasn’t all me.”

She walked in, her watery gaze roaming over the space. Twinkling lights lit up the punched tin ceiling. Every wall was covered with built-in bookshelves with a sliding ladder to allow easy access to those high shelves. Light fixtures, made to look like candle sconces, brightened the space. She walked over to the window seat, complete with plush cushions and pillows. The desk that used to be in the middle of the room was gone, replaced by a couple of swinging chairs.

Pippa spun around. “I can’t believe you did all this. And in two weeks, no less.”

“Do you like it?”

Joy radiated from her, beaming from her smile. “I love it. This is so special. Thank you, Mason.”

He stepped closer, grabbing her hand before pressing it to his lips. “This is just the beginning, baby. I plan on putting that expression on your face as often as possible for the rest of my life.”

Her eyes widened. “That’s an awfully long time to commit to.”

“I told you forever once. I’ve fucked it up since then, but I meant it. I mean what I say. It’s not nearly enough with you.”

A flicker of doubt clouded her gaze. He’d promised her a future before. Now all he had to do was convince her he was in this for good no matter what storms came their way.
