Anger radiated from him. “Take a picture. It’ll last longer.” He turned to the counter, his voice softening just a bit, “Remy, I need a mop.”

Remy, the woman Pippa had come to know from her frequent stops into the specialty gluten-free bakery and café, appeared behind the counter. “Sure thing.”

“I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going. Can I buy you a replacement?” Pippa asked.

The man kept his back to her. “No.”

She should have slowed down, but still, he didn’t need to be an asshole about it. Pippa sighed and led Lady to the front counter as Remy walked out with the mop.

The man reached over and took it from her. “I got it.”

“Thanks.” Remy’s eyes flashed to hers as the grumpy asshole started cleaning the mess. “Hey, Pippa. What can I get you?”

“Uh, well, actually, I wondered if you could tell me which one of your patrons is Mason Wright?”

Remy smiled, her gaze focusing over Pippa’s shoulder. Please no. It couldn’t be. Could it?

“He’s the one you just ran into.” Remy smiled.

Pippa’s gut knotted as she closed her eyes. “Oh, fuck.”
