Aspen shrugged. “My uncle Sebastian always said it’s important to let the people we care about know how much they mean to us. I’m really glad you’re my friend, Pippa.”

Pippa’s eyes grew blurry before she blinked away tears. Unable to speak, she opened the box revealing a gold necklace with half of a heart with the word Best inscribed on it.

“Oh my goddess.” She pressed her hand to her chest.

Aspen pulled out a second necklace, the other half with Friends inscribed on it. “Would you help me put mine on?”

“Absolutely, sweetheart. I can’t tell you how special this is. Thank you so much.” Pippa gave her another hug before putting the necklace on each of them.

“Can we get a picture together?” Aspen asked, holding up a Polaroid camera.

“Definitely.” Pippa held it out, and snapped their selfie. “Now a silly face.”

Pippa stuck her tongue out and Aspen growled. They both laughed as Pippa set the photos on her desk to develop.

“Ready to go show your dad?” Pippa asked.

“Yes. But if he says it’s too much makeup, you gotta back me up because us women need to stand together, okay?” Aspen held out her hand for Pippa’s.

Pippa chuckled and slipped her palm into the young woman’s. “Don’t ever change, Aspen.”
