“You’ve got cameras this time. Let’s see what we can get from them.” Bently walked closer.

Pippa pulled out her phone, swiping open the app for her security that Mason had installed. She pulled up the footage and handed it over to Bently. “There aren’t any cameras in the back, just the front and the side where my steps lead up to my apartment.”

“I’d still like to see the last couple hours, if you’re willing?”

Pippa tapped the screen before handing it back to him. “Just enter your number or email here and it will send you a copy.”

Bently typed it before he returned the phone to her.

“Do you have any idea who would do this?” Bently asked.

“No. I mean, I recognize the first part of the message. It’s a Bible verse. I don’t know who would be targeting me or the store.” Who would have—oh! “I had a run-in with Cara’s dad. I don’t know his name.”

Troy extended his arms to her for a second time, and she hugged him back.

“Lester Marby,” Bently supplied.

She nodded. “He’s the only one I’ve had a confrontation with . . . But maybe you should talk to Pastor Calvin too.”

“What the fuck happened?” Mason’s steely voice made her jump. His gaze flicked between Troy’s arms around her and Pippa.

She walked from one man to the other.

Mason’s voice softened as he enveloped her in a hug.“Are you okay?”

She breathed a sigh of relief. Just being in his arms brought her peace in the chaos. I am now. She nodded.

“Why didn’t you call me?” Hurt bled from his voice, ragged and raw.

She pulled back to look at him. It only happened a second ago. AndI don’t want to be a burden. “This isn’t your problem.”

“Someone is targeting you. I’d say that is my concern.”

Her heart squeezed. Having this amazing man so protective of her brought a rush of warmth to her chest as she fell even more in love with him. But his worry also brought up the ugly dark truth: she was becoming a burden on him, a distraction, which he’d been explicitly clear he didn’t want.

“Maybe you should stay with me for now. Until Bently can catch this fucker.” Mason growled and held her tighter before kissing her forehead.

She shook her head. She wouldn’t add to his stress. “No. I won’t let fear win. I’ll be fine.”

He sighed. “Then I’ll stay with you.”

She closed her eyes. Could this guy get any more perfect? Where she expected him to go full alpha and take control of a situation, he swerved left. Instead, he listened to what she needed and gave it to her. Surely, he had faults, right? A tiny voice inside her told her to enjoy it while it lasted. But she shoved that annoying warning away, because right there and then, Mason Wright was holding her tight and offering her the world. She’d be a fool to turn him down.
