“We’re gonna have a cookout on the beach two weekends from now,” Aaron said. “You guys up for it?”

Link turned to Emma. “What do you think, little bird?”

Emma’s eyes brightened. “I think that sounds like fun.”

“We’re ready, Em,” one of her bandmates called.

“Guess that’s our cue. Nice to see you again, Brynn. I’m sure we’ll catch up at book club.”

“That sounds wonderful. Pippa is hosting this month,” Brynn answered.

“See you Friday.” Emma waved, and Link gave Aaron a nod before they climbed the stairs to the gazebo, taking care over the black cords to all manner of instruments on the ground.

“I think I should start a book club for the guys. What do you think?” Aaron asked, sliding his fingers between hers as he led her towards the picnic tables.

“You mean to read romance novels?”

Aaron shrugged. “Yeah, why not? I mean it doesn’t always have to be, but there are some pretty awesome things a man can learn between the pages of a book written by a woman about women’s wants, needs, desires, and thoughts.”

She grinned. “I would agree with you there.”

“Hey, I read that chapter you marked for me.” He lowered his voice, leaning in to her ear. “Give me a few days to get the supplies we need, and we can try out that fantasy of yours, okay?”

She shivered, her belly doing a summersault. “I can’t wait.”

“And I signed us up for that class about BDSM. We now have access to the videos. We can start watching tonight if you’re up for it?”

She flicked her gaze towards her husband, the man who loved her so unconditionally. Aaron was the perfect lover, her partner in all aspects, and she couldn’t be happier. “Absolutely.”

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” a loud voice boomed from behind them.

Brynn spun around. Local fisherman, Nash Emerson, was staring daggers at a woman Brynn didn’t recognize sitting in the dunk tank.

The woman crossed her arms and leveled him with an equally hard glare. “What I do is none of your business.”

“The hell it isn’t!” Nash yanked open the door to the back of the booth before he wrapped a burly arm around the woman and pulled her out. The woman’s face flushed as anger burned in her brown eyes.

“Bájame, cabrón!” she cried.

“Shouldn’t we do something?” Brynn asked Aaron. Would Nash hurt her?

“Why can’t you just listen to me?” Nash growled.

The woman stood straight, shoving him away, tipping her chin in defiance. “Why can’t you stay away from me?”

“Pretty hard to do when you’re living with my sister and carrying my goddamned baby!” Nash’s chest heaved, his nostrils flaring before he cast a glance around him, as if just realizing they’d garnered an audience.

“Well, that explains a lot,” Nova Emerson said, appearing at Brynn’s side. She marched forward, took the woman’s arm that her brother had been yelling at, then disappeared around the corner. Nash wiped a hand over his face and shook his head, as if lost.

“And I thought the fireworks tonight were going to be the highlight of entertainment.” Aaron chuckled. “I better check on Nash. Give me a sec?”

Brynn nodded. “Of course.”

Aaron kissed her cheek, then walked across the path to his acquaintance.

Brynn spun around, looking for something to occupy her time with. Blade and his men sat around an airbrush tattoo table offering free artwork for the kids. He caught her gaze and gave her a nod.

Brynn smiled and waved. She’d never asked what became of Paul. But two months after everything happened, the FBI raided the compound she’d grown up in. It was all over the news. The leaders were charged with everything from embezzlement and insider trading to child neglect and abuse. The Pirates had kept their promise, and she had every intention of doing the same.
