“About time you caught up.” Mikel clapped Finn on the shoulder.

Finn beamed. “Yeah, now that Jamison is three, we figured we were ready for one more. The doctor cleared Charli, so we decided to give it a go.”

“If only my husband would let me out of his sight for more than five minutes now.” Charli’s mouth turned up into a teasing smile.

Finn shook his head. “Not gonna happen, Charli baby. Not after what happened last time.”

Charli pressed her hand over her husband’s heart before she stood on tiptoes and kissed him. “I’ll be much less stressed this go around, and no one is trying to kill me, so I think we’ll be okay.”

A low growl came from Finn. “You bet your pretty ass you will. Because I’m not leaving you alone.”

Brynn stifled a giggle as she turned towards her in-laws across the park. Sometimes blood family caused hurt. Especially when they only loved and accepted a version of you that didn’t even exist. Love with control wasn’t real love. The truest love came with acceptance and the freedom to be your true self.

Dani approached her grandparents, motioning to their shirts, a bright smile on her face. Sometimes those people could learn and do better. It wasn’t always the family you were born into that would love you the hardest, but the family you chose.

She returned her attention to the circle of friends around her. This was Brynn’s family.

Each couple balanced each other out. The men all looked upon their wives with the same worshipping look Aaron pointed at her. And Brynn knew from the book club meetings that their wives were more than satisfied in every area of their marriages.

None of them had had it easy, but they’d all gotten their happily ever afters.

Some people thought that the end of a story was when the couple said “I do” and then they rode off into the sunset. But really, the moment when Brynn stood before Aaron and made her vows wasn’t the end, but the beginning of a story they’d write every single day by choosing each other, by connecting and sharing experiences. Chapter by chapter, they’d weave a story unique to them. When the tough times came, they’d thread their fingers together and hold on as they faced the challenges together. Their lives would mingle as their souls had until nothing lay between them but hope for a brighter tomorrow.

The Beginning . . .
