AARON

Aaron pressed his hand to Brynn’s lower back as she pushed the cart through the grocery store.

“Do we need more orange juice?” he asked.

Brynn nodded. “And oat milk.”

He grabbed a bottle of each. “Do you and Dani want regular milk?”

She shook her head and focused ahead, towards the eggs. She hadn’t looked him in the eye since he walked into the living room and found her so engrossed in one of his romance novels that he had to call her name three times for attention. She’d flushed the reddest he’d seen her yet and had avoided his eyes ever since.

“We can get both,” he offered again, pointing towards the dairy case.

“Honestly, I’ve gotten used to your oat milk. It’s rather good.”

He smiled. “Glad to hear it. What’s next on the list, honey?” He took the opportunity to lean in closer, inhaling her sweet scent as she pulled up the grocery list on his phone that he’d handed her.

Her hand trembled slightly. Was she uncomfortable with this? “Are you okay? Or is playing the newlyweds too much today?”

She turned to him for the first time since that morning, gratitude shining in her eyes as she blinked twice in sucession. “I’m okay.”

“Good.” He smiled, hoping to set her at ease. “So, if I told you I was going to lean in and kiss you right now while nosy Miss Nancy Plotts in aisle two was watching, you’d be okay with that?”

Her breath hitched. “I mean if you think it’s necessary.”

“Oh, it’s necessary.” Because it’s taking everything in me to keep my hands off you.

He leaned in slowly before he gently pressed his lips to hers. She melted against him, a soft gasp leaving her parted mouth. He slid his lips around her bottom one, tugging ever so slightly. A tiny mewl left her throat and shot straight to his cock. No matter how much she fought it, there was no doubt Brynn felt this chemistry too.

“Goodness me, you two are gonna melt the whole refrigerator section,” Mrs. Patterson teased as she passed by Nancy, her cart loaded with canned cat food.

Brynn pulled away, hiding her face against his chest.

Aaron laughed and gave the old woman a smirk. “Good morning, Mrs. Patterson. How’s Jake?”

Her eyes lit up. “Better than ever. He’s loving his classes.” The woman’s gaze dropped to Brynn. “I hope you’re not embarrassed, dear.”

Brynn lifted her head hesitantly, her cheeks still slightly flushed.

“Oh to be young and in love again. Savor every moment you have. And don’t ever take chemistry like that for granted.” Mrs. Patterson winked, then waved to them. “I better be off. I’m going to get the fixings for my famous shepherd’s pie for Jake’s dinner tonight.”

“You’ll have to come help Marge make a big batch for the kids again someday soon. They loved it last time,” Aaron added.

“Oh, I’d love that. Just let me know when. Have a great day.” She left them and swerved down the next aisle.

Brynn pushed the cart forward, and Aaron’s hand returned to her waist. “I think it’s safe to say we pulled it off, Mrs. Ridley.”

A small chuckle came from Brynn. God, he wanted to see how a full belly laugh sounded from her. What would it take?

“I have a joke for you.” He picked up a box of crackers and set them in the cart.

“A joke?”

“Yeah. Did you hear about the first restaurant to open on the moon?” Aaron asked.

Brynn wrinkled her nose and looked at him.
