“Okay, well, I’m going to say some things, and I really want you to listen. Can you do that?”

“Okay.”

“It hurts me that you think I’m the kind of man who would want to cheat on my wife.”

She winced.

“I’m not your ex, Brynn. And whoever told you that infidelity is part of being with a man, lied to you. It’s unfair for you to project your past experiences with your abuser onto me. But I also understand how hard that is for you. You’ve been hurt, deeply, and traumatized, and that takes a lot of time to work through.”

Brynn met his gaze, tears welling in her watery green spheres.

Aaron cleared his throat. The urge to take away her pain roared within him. “I have not, nor will I have intimate relations with a woman that isn’t you while we’re married. You are my wife in every sense of the word. The ring on my finger means I am yours. And this—” He pressed the band on her left hand. “—means you’re mine. Mine to protect. Mine to cherish. Mine to love.” His voice caught on the last word.

Brynn’s eyes widened, but he continued. “I’m a patient man, but even I’m human. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about you and me together.”

Her face bloomed crimson and her eyes dropped down to her lap once again.

“I’ve thought about tracing every inch of your body with my mouth, finding all the spots that make you sigh and whimper like you did when I kissed you. Discovering all the ways I can make you come.”

Her swallow was audible as she met his eyes once again, lust shining through.

“But I don’t want to scare you or move faster than you’re ready for. You call the shots, remember? So, if you want more, I need you to tell me. And if it’s too much, I need you to tell me that too. This is only going to work with clear communication. And I don’t want to fuck this up. I want your body, yes. I also want your friendship, and above all your heart and soul. But that won’t work without the gift of your trust.”

“Why would you go through all this for me? There are so many other women who wouldn’t be this much trouble.”

He brought her hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles. “Because you’re my sunshine.” And like the earth, he was powerless to her and her gravity. “From the moment I laid eyes on you, you consumed my thoughts.” He’d been caught in her pull and never wanted to be freed.

Brynn blinked, as if in disbelief, her gaze hazy and unfocused. That was okay, because if it was the last thing Aaron did, it was to convince this woman that, like the sun, she deserved the world that revolved around it.
