“Keep looking at me like that and I might come,” he warned.

Her eyes darted to his. He smiled and then reached into the bedside table, pulling out a foil packet. He ripped it open.

“May I?” she asked, curious.

He handed her the latex.

“Can you show me?” She shyly flicked her gaze to his.

“Pinch the tip, and then you roll it on, like this.” Aaron’s hand engulfed hers, showing her how to roll the condom over his dick. “Perfect.”

He crawled back over her, lining the tip of his erection at her entrance. She spread her legs wider to accommodate his large body over hers.

“You sure you want this?” Aaron checked again.

“Yes.” She met his eyes, hooking her hand behind his head and pulling him in for a kiss. She hadn’t been surer of anything before. Partly because she wanted to see if she could do this. And partly because she’d be more relaxed knowing he was also getting pleasure from their experience.

“If you change your mind, just say stop and I will. Promise?” he asked.

“Promise.”

He slid inside her, slow and controlled. She gasped as his cock stretched her, filling her more than she thought possible.

His expression strained. “You doing okay?”

“Yes. More.”

He rocked her, face to face, hovering above her as his weight rested on his arms, pinning either side of her to the mattress. Her breaths came in pants as he hit the spot that he’d touched before with his fingers. That pressure returned. She dug her nails into his shoulders, holding on as he drove inside her, harder and faster.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

The bed frame knocked the wall and Brynn froze. All sensation left her body as numbness leaked through her bones like poison until she felt nothing at all except violated and terror.

She stared at the ceiling.

Paul’s wrinkled red face, covered in sweat, huffed over her. Brynn lay limp beneath him, unable to escape. She was trapped yet again by his greedy fingers and artificial-cherry-tainted breath. She lay frozen, as still as a corpse. It was always worse when she fought him. She closed her eyes, trying to hold back the tears that wanted to fall, because it only made him smile and go harder.

“Brynn!” Aaron shouted.

She gasped. Opening her eyes, she was no longer on her back, but in her husband’s arms. Oh my God!

Her body trembled, numb, as if she’d fallen in an icy lake. She was so cold. The chill gnawed at the marrow of her bones, iced deep within her soul.

“You’re safe. I got you. No one will hurt you again. You’re not alone, Brynn,” Aaron said, his hand rubbing soothing circles over the raised scars on her back. She held her breath as his head moved, most likely to take a better look.

She slammed her eyes closed again, hugged herself tighter against his chest, and cried harder.

He pulled back, his palm sliding up her nape to cradle her head. “Brynn, open your eyes and look at me.”

She hesitated.

“Please, sunshine.” The plea in his voice snapped something inside her chest.

She opened her eyes, now blurry with tears. This is where he realizes I’m not worth it. I’m too broken.

Aaron’s soft gaze locked with hers. “We’re gonna get through this together. You hear me?”

A sob tore through her, releasing an avalanche of grief. It crashed over her, threatening to suffocate.

He held her as she cried. He was calm, steady, despite the storm raging inside her. She released the pent-up anger and overwhelming grief, all while two strong arms held her, wrapped in a cocoon of protection as she fell apart.

Would she ever get put back together again? Or was she shattered beyond hope?
