Grant didn’t want to risk losing that moment again.

He took a deep breath and leaned forward, pressing his lips to Huck’s in a sweet kiss.

He heard Huck gasp, a quick draw of breath that matched his own sharp inhale, and he was certain there were sparks going off between them. Huck’s lips were cool, velvety soft, and his hand stroked the side of Grant’s face in the most adoring way.

The kiss was perfect.

It was gentle, tender, and Grant’s stomach flooded with an army of zooming butterflies. He was kissing a ghost. Holy fuck. He was kissing a ghost, and it was absolutely magical.

“How… How was that?” Grant whispered, his lips still brushing over Huck’s as he spoke. “Did you… Did you taste anything? The s’mores?”

“Mmm, I don’t think so.” Huck smiled. “Might needs’morejust to be sure.”

“Yeah. Totally. We should do that. You know, for science.”

“For science, yeah.” Huck grinned. “Beautiful, handsome, freckly science.” He kissed Grant again.

Grant moaned, kissing Huck back passionately. God, this wasreal. This was really happening, and it was incredible.

Huck was taking his time, turning his head this way and that as their mouths slid together, and Grant groaned when Huck’s tongue flicked forward to find his own. Grant’s energy was bubbling over uncontrollably, bursting out in quick flashes that made his head spin and his insides flip. He pressed closer, surprised when his hand caught on Huck’s shoulder.

Usually, he would direct his psychic energy into a certain space or part of a room. It was how he sensed spirits and communicated with them. Whatever the hell was happening now was causing him to direct the flow of energy right into Huck as they kissed, and he had no idea how to stop or if he even should.

The kiss dragged on, syrupy slow and sweet, and Grant was soon panting. Huck’s tongue was searing and slick against his own, and Grant groaned when he realized he could suck on it.

Huck was still touching his face, and his other hand was sliding over Grant’s side, caressing his curves hungrily. That simple touch lit a new fire inside of Grant, and it sent pressure right down to his cock. Fuck, that was hot.

But wait, wow, it was gettingreallyhot, and it was hard to breathe.

Grant’s panting was almost a wheeze now. His muscles were heavy, his chest tight, and he was getting dizzy. He could feel ripples of energy washing over him, like stepping out from the shade into the sunshine on a hot summer day. He assumed it was Huck trying to share his energy, but it wasn’t enough.

He had to break their kiss, gasping for air and groaning in frustration. “Damn, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“What’s wrong?” Huck asked urgently. “Are you all right?”

“Mm, I’m okay. I’m okay. Wow. I’m so very okay. Just tired.” Grant grinned breathlessly. “Wow. That was… incredible.”

Huck was beaming from ear to ear, and his skin was now a gorgeous shade of brown, warm even in the dim light of the bedside lamp. Almost his entire torso was in full color, solid and firm, and his hands were hot against Grant’s cheek as he placed one last gentle kiss to his lips.

Grant squeezed Huck’s shoulders. “I’ve, uh, never done that before. Kissing, yes. But never, uh…”

“With a member of the oxygen intolerant club?”

“Yeah.” Grant laughed and wiped his brow. “I didn’t know I could. I don’t know what this means. I don’t know what I’m doing.” His thoughts spiraled out of control in a blink, and the room was spinning just as fast. He was getting nauseated, and a cloud of regret was creeping in, fogging his brain right up. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. This might have been a mistake—”

“Hey, hey, easy. How about we have a little snuggle sesh and just talk?” Huck urged Grant to lie down, and he reached for Grant’s hands so they could stay connected. “How’s this?”

“That’s good.” Grant took a few deep breaths as he got settled. They were lying face-to-face now, their joined hands in between them. He could see some of the color seeping out of Huck’s face and hoodie, but he didn’t think he could risk lending any more of his energy to make it stay. Instead, he focused on their hands and wove their fingers together.

“Was it too much?” Huck’s brow furrowed in concern. “Sip had said the energy thing could be a thing. I mean, like, it could be a problem. That kinda thing. I was trying to share mine. At least, I think I was.”

“It was pretty overwhelming toward the end,” Grant confessed. “It was like I’d just run ten miles, and I couldn’t breathe. I don’t know what happened. I’ve never felt a drain like that before. Sorry I got kinda freaked out.”

“Hey, no. Don’t apologize.” Huck squeezed Grant’s hands. “Thank you for letting me know. I’m sorry I didn’t realize it was doing all that to you. I couldn’t tell anything was wrong.”

“What was it like for you?”

“It was like swimming,” Huck said thoughtfully. “The water was icy cold at first so I couldn’t move, and then it got warmer and warmer until it felt like I was flying. It was pretty amazing, but… Look, it’s not worth it if it hurts you.”
