My brow wrinkled. “What do you mean?”

“Your life bond is broken. What you’re feeling is all you,” she replied.

“So how long to get over an infatuation?” I asked.

“That’s not an infatuation.” She sighed, heavy and resigned. “I can feel it. Scarlett could feel it. I bet even Jasmine sensed it. She might have written it off as the life bond, but it’s not.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“The bond you’re feeling?” Zoe began. “That’s a mating bond.”

I swerved, and Zoe screamed. After regaining control of the car, I pulled over, then faced my best friend. “You’re telling me you let me walk away from my true mate?”

“What were you going to do? Force her to stay with you? After everything she’s been through?” Zoe snapped. “If anything, you gave her exactly what she needed. The freedom she’s never had.”

I leaned my head back against the seat and closed my eyes. Zoe was right. Morgan had been controlled by others her whole life. Most of her life had been planned and dictated for her. With the death of her father, she had a chance to figure out what she wanted.

“How long is it going to hurt?” I asked, my eyes still closed.

“Forever,” Zoe said.

I took a deep breath. “I can deal with forever.”

“For what it’s worth, I’m sorry,” Zoe said.

“So am I.”
