Although, about everything was making Mia laugh at the moment. It was refreshing. It had been a long time since he had heard Mia’s true real laugh. The last few months, she had been more subdued than normal. He chalked it up to the way he’d screwed up their friendship, in addition to Gabby’s newfound relationship.

“Order something better than water,” she said with strong laughter as she rolled her eyes. Then stood up. “Jezey and I have to use the ladies’ room. Don’t go anywhere.”

The ladies stood up and sauntered off toward the bathroom, their steps unsteady and wavering. They held onto each other as if needing each other’s support so they didn’t fall on their ass in embarrassment.

A full clear glass of liquid with several ice cubes and a lemon wedge graced on the side appeared in front of him.

“Your water, sir.”

Jaxson scoffed as he met Brick’s amusing gaze.

Then Brick leaned on the counter with his elbows, a wicked grin displayed.

“So, how long have you and Mia been a thing? That hickey says a lot.” He chuckled. “So does her reaction to seeing you. Alcohol always tells a story that we otherwise wouldn’t see.”

Well, shit.

Now what did he do?

Feign ignorance, or confess the truth that Brick could already see?

“Cat got your tongue?”

He still didn’t know what to say. Especially when he didn’t know how Mia would react to him knowing.

“It’s complicated, man.”

Brick frowned. “Only if you make it so.”

Then he sauntered back toward the other end of the bar when someone called his name. Jaxson stood there with confusion filling his veins and the worry worming its way right after.

Brick was right. It didn’t have to be complicated.

The question was, how did he convince Mia of that?

Mia hit the soap dispenser, but her reflexes were off. Her hand missed the spot of soap that spit out, making her chuckle. Jezebelle, who stood next to her washing her hands, laughed with her.

“I think we had too much vitamin C today.” Jezebelle giggled as she pulled a few paper towels out of the dispenser to dry her hands.

Mia finally had soap in her hand and was lathering them up good.

“You can never have too much vitamin C. It’s good for you.”

A brow rose as Jezebelle threw her paper towels away. “Too much Prosecco then.”

“And the shots.”

“And the sex on the beach.”

They both paused, then burst out giggling.

Mia cocked her brow, mischievous intent lurking. “You should totally have real sex on the beach.”

“Even if I could find the nerve to talk to him like a normal person, I would never do something like that in public.”

“Where is your sense of adventure?” Even as Mia said that, with her alcohol-addled brain, she knew she’d never do anything so adventurous either.
