“Iowe you a full deluxe spa or something. You name it,” Jezebelle said with glee as she walked arm in arm with her sister toward The Corner Bar.

Sophia had somehow finagled their way out of their mother’s company. Probably because her mother thought Sophia would talk her into leaving Brick and working for the law firm. Ha! She had no idea what they planned to do today. When Brick texted asking where they were, she happily wrote back ‘free from the devil.’

That elicited a laughing emoji with a kissing one that had her heart skipping a beat. She missed him like crazy. She had asked where he was and hadn’t been able to hide her shock when he replied the bar. She figured he would’ve come straight to her after visiting his father, not head to the bar. Of course, she said she’d meet him there and would be bringing her sister along.

Sophia didn’t question her reaction. She wasn’t sure how she would’ve responded. While she loved this new dynamic between her and her sister, she wasn’t ready to share the engagement was all a sham.

Maybe at some point it could all be real.

She fiddled with the ring before grabbing the handle of the door.

“I will not say no to a spa day. Maybe later today.”

Jezebelle had no idea what Brick wanted to do, but she would not say no to a spa day ever.

“I love that idea.”

Sophia let go of her arm and gestured for her to go first through the door. “Let’s meet this man of yours and see what he thinks of the idea.”

Brick was easygoing. He wouldn’t mind at all about the change of plans.

She saw him sitting at the bar, his back to them.

She pointed, whispering, “There he is.”

“Oh, dear,” Sophia said, fanning herself with a giggle. “I haven’t even seen his face yet.”

More giggles erupted between them, which garnered Brick’s attention. He turned around.

“Oh, my, God! What happened?” Jezebelle rushed to his side, framing his face.

The ridiculous grin from him did nothing to soothe her rattled nerves.

She brushed a finger around his eye, frowning. “Please tell me your father didn’t do this.”

He grabbed her hands and pulled them to his lap. “I wish I could. As you can see, our conversation this morning didn’t go so well.”

“And?” She needed to know what he said about the money—if she had to give up the ring, which she would gladly do. If his brother was supposed to have this ring but didn’t because of lies, she would never hold on to it. It wouldn’t be right.

Brick’s attention glided to her sister standing behind her. “And I think you should introduce me to your sister.”

She suppressed a frustrated sigh, knowing that particular conversation should wait until they were alone.

She turned as Brick stood and held out his hand.

“I’m Rick, although most people call me Brick. It’s nice to meet you.”

Sophia shook hands, her crafty smile making Jezebelle want to start giggling again. She knew what her sister had to be thinking. Because she was thinking it, too. Brick was the sexiest man alive.

“Sophia. It’s such a pleasure to meet you. I can’t believe Jezebelle kept you from us. Naughty, naughty.” Her sister shook her finger at her, her lips forming a mock frown.

“Oh, it’s been such a whirlwind romance,” Brick said as he pulled her into his side, kissing her cheek. “I don’t know what I’d do without this wonderful woman in my life.”

Brick gestured at the bar. “Are we having a drink? Should I make us lunch upstairs? What’s on the agenda, ladies?”

Sophia perused him, centering on his face like a laser beam to its target. “Well, that spa day Jezebelle mentioned is sounding more and more ideal. Your face could use some tender loving care.”
