He loved her?

Like, for real?

Or was he still putting on a show in front of her sister?

But the way the words left his mouth in such a frenzied need, she believed he loved her. That it was the truth.

“Ugh. My husband needs to step up his game. I need this kind of passion in my life.” Sophia smacked her arm, which had Brick backing away with a chuckle floating in the air. “I’m so jealous of you right now.”

She licked her bottom lip, looking away from his heated gaze to see her sister looking at her with her best pouty expression.

“They do waxings at the spa, too. You could get something fun.” Jezebelle’s gaze drifted down toward her sister’s lap, letting her know what she was insinuating. “Give him a little surprise tonight.”

“I’m going to check on the food.” Brick cleared his throat with a mixture of a cough and laugh and walked away.

Sophia leaned in. “You let that man get away and I’ll disown you. He’s a…” Her mouth hung open, shaking her head as if she couldn’t find the right words. “Mother is so wrong. I’m so sorry she’s doing this to you.”

Jezebelle placed a hand over Sophia’s, smiling. “I’m so glad you came. I’ve missed you.”

“Likewise.”

Then they were hugging and Jezebelle never wanted this sisterly feeling to ever disappear. It made her sad it took this long in life to get this connection with her sister. All this time she thought Sophia had the perfect life with the perfect husband in the perfect job.

Turned out, she did.

Now, she just had to keep it that way.

He watchedas Jezebelle walked out of the room to put the few goodies she purchased at the spa center in the bathroom. His eyes were glued to her ass in the tight jeans she wore, his heart dipping when she disappeared from his view. He could watch her all day doing any particular thing—like walking—and not get bored. Beautiful, amazing woman.

And his.

Yep. All his.

Brick decided to grab a drink of water instead of a shot of something strong. He wasn’t sure what their plans were for the night, but he didn’t want to muddle his brain with anything—just yet.

This was the first time they’d been alone since their afternoon adventure with her sister. The first time for her to question him about what he said to her earlier.

I won’t walk away without a fight. Because I love you.

Part of him was dying for her to bring it up right away. Lay his entire heart and soul on the line, hoping and praying she laid it all back on him.

He hadn’t meant to confess so soon. But when the words slipped out, regret didn’t hit him. A huge weight had lifted from his chest, making it easier to breathe. Oh, he had no doubt her mother would continue to make his life a living hell, but as long as Jezebelle knew his real feelings, that’s all that mattered. As long as she knew he’d do everything in his power to keep her, that’s what was important.

These last four days had been the best days of his life. He never could’ve imagined how wonderful her mere presence in his life could make it feel richer and perfect.

Like their spa adventure.

If someone would’ve asked him last week if he’d ever go to a spa, he would’ve responded with a ‘hell, no.’ Now, he was waiting for her to suggest they make it a monthly thing. He wouldn’t balk at the idea. Whatever that lady had put on his face had done wonders to his eye. It was no longer swollen, although still quite black and blue. He could see out of his eye. The massage she had given him had felt like she had magic in her hands. He felt relaxed and rejuvenated.

Well, part of that could be from telling Jezebelle how he felt.

He glanced toward the hallway. What was taking her so long in the bathroom?

Maybe she didn’t want to come out here.

He’d been dying to have this conversation. Perhaps she was dreading it.
