He shrugged, hoping she wouldn’t be able to see the panic in his eyes at the realization he had come to.

“It’s nothing. I know you don’t eat a lot of junk food, so I hope I got the right tea. And the lady at the bookstore said those had good heroes. I mean, with the names Hugh and Jasper, they have to.”

She chuckled with him. “I can’t wait to read them.”

Then she leaned forward, swiped a quick kiss on his cheek, and was out the door before he could turn it into something else. Something hotter and more intense.

But she kissed him. That had to mean something.

It wasn’t enough.

Somehow, someway, he’d make her his. Not just a quick lay between the sheets, but something more. Something permanent.

Like his girlfriend.

He’d never had one of those before.

It was time to rectify that.

This would either be the worst mistake of his life—or the best. Corey hadn’t decided which. But you never got anywhere in life without taking risks now and again.

That’s what he and his brother had done when they decided to open a bar. And look how that turned out. It was a success.

He could only hope asking Genevieve out would also be one.

Or he could ruin everything and never see her again.

Yep, totally a risk.

First, he had to chat with Gabby and Dane about it. The last thing he wanted to do was ruin his friends’ wedding.

Since it was a Friday night, they happened to be in the bar having a drink after work. He’d already called Genevieve that he’d be running late and he’d pick Amelie up from her place. Luck was on his side and she didn’t have any classes to teach tonight.

He headed around the bar, waving good-bye to Dom, who was taking over his shift, and found Gabby and Dane in the back area having a drink with Jaxson and Mia.

“Hey, having a drink with us?” Jaxson asked as he took a seat next to Dane.

“Na, just wanted to chat a bit.” Not that he wanted to have this conversation in front of everyone, but he also didn’t want to be weird and ask Dane and Gabby to come with him somewhere private.

“What’s on your mind?” Gabby had great instincts, knowing he wanted to talk to them.

“So, uh, I marked down two for your wedding.”

Dane nodded. Gabby twisted her lips into a smirk as if she knew what he was going to say.

“You can’t find a date.” Dane chuckled, clapping him on the back.

Well, when he marked down party-of-two two months ago, he figured he’d ask a lady friend and then finally get that sex he’d been dying to have for the longest time. It was time to get back in the saddle, so to speak. A man could only go on for so long before it became too much. His hand wasn’t cutting it anymore.

Now, he had someone else in mind. Not quite the first date he’d planned to take Genevieve on, but he needed a date for the wedding and she was the only one he wanted to take.

“I sort of wanted to ask Genevieve to accompany me.”

Dane’s eyes widened. Gabby still wore the same smirk.

“But only if it’s okay with you two. I know how you feel about her. How all of you do. Even Ricky hasn’t warmed up to her and she’s been taking care of Amelie for the past three months.”
