“Afraid to talk to us alone?” Gabby challenged.

To think the day was going so well. She knew it would come crumbling down sooner or later.

“No. I thought you’d want to talk to him as well. As I’m sure you’re making your rounds around the place.”

Dane nodded. Gabby smirked.

“Look. I know nobody likes me in Corey’s circle. I don’t ever expect you to. I’m sorry for what I did. It was stupid and a mistake.” She looked at Dane as she apologized since it had happened on his watch. “I love Amelie with all my heart. I’d never do anything to hurt either of them.”

Gabby’s eyes narrowed. “See that you don’t. Because I’m not a good enemy to have.”

Dane chuckled. “Are there any good enemies to have?”

Laughter poured out of Gabby as she placed a hand on his chest. “Good point. You’re ruining my moment, Dane.”

“Sorry, love.” Then he swiped a kiss across her lips. His gaze then centered on her. “Apology accepted. Sometimes, words aren’t enough. Actions speak louder. I can see you mean a lot to Corey. If he can forgive you, so can we.”

“Yeah, what he said.”

Genevieve wanted to snort with laughter at the way Gabby added that. Not one word sounded believable. But she’d take it. What they were offering. A new beginning to start over with them. She had no doubt one wrong step and she’d be back on their shit list.

“Thank you for letting me come with him. It was a beautiful wedding.”

She didn’t know what else to say. Thankfully, Corey rejoined them, handing her a glass of champagne, and the tension that had filled the space dissipated.

The night carried on with no further awkward moments and before she knew it, they were leaving. Amelie could barely keep her eyes open before they left.

“She is going to sleep so well tonight,” Genevieve said, her heart dreading the next turn. Because she’d be home and the night would officially be over. “I will, too. What a long day.”

Corey reached over and grabbed her hand. “It was a great day. Thanks for coming with me.”

When he parked, he put a hand behind her neck and pulled her in for a kiss that had her head spinning and aching for more.

They came up for air, both breathing heavily, both twinkling with the desire in their eyes.

“So…” he started.

Her brows rose as a smile spread across her lips. “So…”

He blew out a breath. “I was wondering if we could have a sleepover tonight. If you’re ready…for that kind of thing.”

She glanced at Amelie’s car seat, although she couldn’t see her sleeping face as it was backward like you were supposed to do until a certain age.

“What about Amelie?”

“She’ll be out like a rock.”

Genevieve had no doubt about that. It had been such a long, busy day for a little girl.

“I’d love a sleepover.”

The pressure on her neck increased some. “You sure? I don’t want to pressure you.”

“Corey, I think this has been a long time coming. I’m ready if you are.”

“So damn ready.” Then his lips were crushing hers and her insides were melting from the intensity of the kiss.

They managed to pull away, knowing they couldn’t keep it up in the car. This had to be taken upstairs.
