I had my back to Rory while she sat in one of the leather chairs. She wore a short, blue dress, and she crossed her legs, showing how shapely and sexy they were. But she was in a rare mood about the talk we were having about her townhome in Georgetown.

“I have no say in what we’re to do with my townhome?” She fumed.

“I don’t need the townhome, and neither do you. You’re not managing a brothel anymore. Anything you need or want - I will provide for you. Plus, it’s just stupid and dangerous.”

“Then what the hell do you expect me to do, Dane? I ran my business just as good as any capo or mob boss!” She stood from the chair, walked around the desk, and planted her ass in the new office chair I just got delivered earlier that day. I interrupted Afonso measuring my arm with his tape and turned my head to look at her.

I shook my head slowly. “I’m the only one that sits in that chair, Rory.”

“Yes, Don Neri!” She barked, leaving the chair and storming out of the office.

I sighed, rolled my eyes, and shook my head. Afonso shrugged his shoulders.

I left the office and found Rory out on the spacious balcony. She stood with her back turned, looking down at the pool in the backyard.

I walked up to her, placing my hands on her shoulders. I caught the scent of her dark hair from the warm breeze and inhaled. She was so intoxicating, no matter how much she wanted to go against the grain with me. I swept her hair away from her shoulder and planted a kiss on her neck. She moaned and tilted her head, so I continued to kiss her warm skin.

She turned around to face me. Tears stained her cheeks. I wiped one away with my thumb. “Rory, you need to trust me to do everything in my power to keep our family safe.”

“Our family?”

“Yes, our family. You, me, Michael, and Anna. What else would you call it?”

“The Neri family. I like it.” She smiled, and we locked our arms around each other.

“You’re smart and brave, and that’s what I love about you. Your knowledge is valuable to me, and I want us to work together, babe. Let me take care of everything for a short time until things settle down. Then we can put more focus on your interests. Maybe I can help you start up a new business and let you take full control of it.”

“Let me at least help manage the house and the logistics – all the small details that are just as important.”

“That would be fantastic. We also should look into schooling for Michael. He’s going to be five soon, and he needs to be socializing, be around other kids his age.”

“Yes. Michael has grown so fast, and he’s not my baby anymore. We need to get him into the best schools, Dane. And someday, Harvard? Or maybe Yale.”

I kissed her. “We’ll let Michael choose between Harvard or Yale.”
